Islam is the religion.
Muslim is the follower.
Just how Christianity is a religion, and a christian is the follower.
Muslims can be divided into two branches of Islam; Sunni and Shia. Sunnis are a lot more common than Shia, where Shia is mainly concentrated in Iran and Iraq.

Islam is the name of the religion, and a practitioner of Islam is called a Muslim. Both words, if I understand correctly are related to the notion of the surrender to the will of God.

Just as a matter of interest, Kabbalah (not sure you have the spelling right) is a practice of Judaism, not a religion itself. It would belike saying one of the sacraments is a sepaerate religion from Catholicism.
And yes, I'm surprised you don't just use a dictionary.
