There are many things in life we have to live with and some of those are the fate that others have inadvertently indirectly or directly had on our lives. As we grow and mature we learn how to handle these things better and that is in actuality taking ones own fate into ones own hands

I didn't chose my genetic inheritance.
I didn't chose my parents and family.
I didn't chose the society or nation I was born into.
I didn't chose the time period I was born into.
I didn't chose any meaningful conditions of my early formative years.
I didn't chose to live in the first place.

I think these factors are the most important determinants of who you are and what kind of life your lead, and I didn't chose any of them. So I can't honestly say that I have designed my own fate. Others didn't really "chose" that fate either as much they haphazardly and largely unknowingly cobbled it together. I know this may not be the most popular or inspiring perspective, but its the only that seems honest.
