The Whitetail Deer are dying from a disease called EHD
Clinical name: Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease. This disease is becoming more common with each passing day with cases being reported in 13 eastern states so far...

The disease is caused from the bite of a small Gnat that lives and breeds in natural standing water and marshy areas. The Gnats die off usually with the first good frost of Fall.

NOTE* This disease though fatal to Deer is in NO WAY A DANGER TO HUMANS nor is it dangerous thru eating venison. This disease can't even be passed from Deer to Deer even if one that is infected is around other healthy Deer.

The symptoms resemble the same symptoms of CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease). The Deer are disoriented and confused, lethargic(tired). In addition they develope bleeding ulcers and lesions in their mouths, lose large amounts of weight (they don't want to eat anymore) and when close to death their tongues swell up and turn blue. They are oblivious to any human traffic in their area. They usuaslly die close to natural water sources because the disease causes them to be very thirsty.

AGAIN..PLEASE DON'T PANIC. The Center for disease Control in Washington D.C. as well as all of the Eastern United States Fish and Game Departments are fully aware of this and are working together to keep hunters and people that eat venison informed. ONCE AGAIN... THERE IS NO DANGER TO HUMANS of catching this disease through contact with an infected Deer nor can it be caught from eating venison.

If the deer has no outward signs or symptoms(emaciated, scruffy hide) I would't worry about it.

Please, eat as many as you can, as quickly as you can. Then stick your gun up your jacksie and see how many of them you can shoot before you have to reload.
