Unrecoverable error?

Question

I have a CD of self-assessment test for an online class that I'm taking. I have taken over 2 dozen of them, and tonight when I went to do more, I got the error below. Can anyone help me?

Executable 'E:\sal.exe' had the following unrecoverable error:
Couldn't find library MSVCR80.dll (required by c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\msoxmlmf.dll)
Please ensure that it is installed

I googled "MSVCR80.dll" and found some interesting possible causes include Windows Defender, clearing a manifest file to cure it and http://theharbourfamily.com/jonathan/?p=185
