I quit smoking recently and I've been going to the gym as a tool to help curb the cravings. This has been going on for two months. I've put a lot of emphasis on cardio, but, if I understand metabolism right, that'll speed it up. For the past week, I could not stop eating. You may think that this is a good thing and so did I....until I realized that I'll probably eat out my bank account.

I do most of my eating at home, so eating out isn't the problem. I also don't think that it's the ol' "I quit smoking so I'll eat" shtick because I was only smoking for 7 years and I still have my taste buds intact. Also, I have a high metabolism already...it just got higher.

So...what're some healthy ways to slow it down without hospitalizing myself?

Congratulations on quitting smoking.

Look at the type of foods you are eating... sugery, high fat or simple carb foods don't last long in your system and thus you feel hungry faster. Focus on eating high fiber foods (oatmeal, whole grains, vegetables) that will stay in your system and make you feel fuller longer. Also, when ever you get the urge to eat, try drinking a glass of water (light lemon flavor helps) and wait 10 minutes. you may not be hungry anylonger.

Put that old cigarette money toward some food, because you've been damned to a healthy body :/

If you cannot afford more food, try adding water to soup, cheap veggies to bulk up foods, eat more whole wheat pastas, and start shopping in the bulk-food section. Also consider buying a Costco membership.
