"A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right. For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative and cunning, rather they simply lie out of habit - an automatic response which is hard to break."

Try and listen more don't' be quick to answer try and focus on the question and the truth. I had much rather somebody tell me the truth then a lie even if it hurts my feelings.

It is disrespectful to you and whoever you are lying to. You can break this habit you have to want it. Sounds like you do if you cannot tell the truth then simply say I would rather not discuss it then don't.

You may try a counselor they can talk you through this. Good luck

When you figure out how to get this monkey off your back let me know. My husband is the same way. I mean he will lie about what he is watching on TV. Why? I don't know. That is his response. He has told me that his father use to lie to his mother all the time. He also told me that he use to lie to his first wife because it was easier than getting into an argument. When I asked if they argued a lot he said no because he lied to her and she mostly never knew he was lying. Go figure. I don't get it but he knows that I don't believe anything he says to me. Once he had the nerve to ask me why I don't believe a word he tells me. Ha! Now that's a man in denial. We are a perfect example of "know the person you marry before you say,I do". It is exactly as you said, it is totally compulsive. He doesn't think about lying he just does without thought or fear of consequence.
I hope it works out for you as it appears you are seeking help. My husband is quite content in his own little world.
