Going to be long so please if you don't have patience to read it all skip it. It will take about 3 posts. I will let you know when it is done.

Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A couple weeks ago as service was ending I picked up my Bible and put it in its case. Immediately in my spirit I heard “Don’t sheath your sword”. I instantly knew what the spirit was saying to me. The Bible is our sword. It is our weapon against satan and the world. If we leave it in its sheath and do not wield it, do not practice with it, then when satan attacks we will be defenseless. The Bible tells us in Eph 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”.

If we keep our sword in its sheath how will we do battle against these rulers of darkness?
I have taken classes in fencing or sword fighting if you prefer. You cannot just pick up a sword and be ready to fight. It takes training and practice and repetition. You must use the sword, get used to it, learn how to parry and thrust. It is the same with the word. If you leave the word in its sheath and do not practice with it. If you do not read it and learn. Then when the time comes that you need to use it for a weapon you will not be ready. The Word tells us to study to show ourselves approved to God. By studying the Word we learn to parry and thrust with it. We learn how to use it as a weapon against satan when he attacks. By studying we become proficient with the use of our weapon.
Satan attacks with ”You are not forgiven, you’ve done too much”. We parry with 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.

Satan attacks again with “You are lost, you don’t know that you are saved”. We parry with 1John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God”. We know that we have eternal life and know that we are saved.
And finally we strike for the heart, if satan had one that is, with Rev 20:10 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever”.

By studying the Word, by practicing with our sword we are able to stand when satan attacks. We are able to block his attacks and parry with the word. We are given a weapon which satan cannot stand before. However too often we leave our sword in its sheath and are defenseless when he comes. So I ask you please do not leave your sword in its sheath. Do not allow yourself to be defenseless. Practice with it. Learn to not only defend yourself with it but also to attack. A sword in its sheath is no danger to anyone.

Ok. Done now. So my question is do you train with your sword or do you leave it in it's sheath?

Yes we use the sword of the LORD which is this WORD of GOD.

How are we to deal with Satan? Michael showed us how.

Jud 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

And so did Jesus

Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

The point is, we don't have to put up with Satan or his evil spirits.

Hbr 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I carry my sword with me everywhere I go. I go nowhere without it. Sometimes, like to the store, I may not carry my big study Bible, but I always have a small New Testament in my purse. First of all, you can never know when you will need to open His word in search of an answer, strength, etc. Second, I have met people in a store, looking at cards, or even shampoo, who begin talking, and it opens a chance to speak of the Lord.

But to more closely answer your questions, I study my Bible every day. Not just read it, but study it, prayer over the verses, and try to allow it to become a part of me. God always gives us the scripture we need most.

God bless

Your heart is in the right place, but you are mixing metaphors. You start with "bible in case" and "sword in its sheath."

The bible is pretty clear that the "word" is sharper than any two edged sword. You should meditate on it day and night and use it to walk the straight and narrow path.

That has nothing to do with putting your bible in its case.

Keep working on this. You are close to something good....just be careful starting with one premise and ending with another conclusion.

edit: Robert S. you can't keep your bible out 24/7. but you can keep the Word in your thoughts 24/7...

what that means is to continually read AND use the Word.

Joshua was told to "meditate" in the word in his heart (Joshua 1:8) This is meant to repeat saying it until it becomes "written on his heart.

Hebrew 4:15 (or 12, I can't remember right now) talks of where the Word should be to be outright effective.
Does your "sword" go that far?
