we think it may either be something fuel related or heat related, but were not sure so any feedback would be great

it barely makes it up the hill. it cuts out and backfires too much. it could be fuel related or heat related

we drilled holes in the cadillac converter and beat out all of the dirt.
it also sat for 9ish months. then we bought it and it ran normal all the way home. then i put new gas in it and it stopped working.

Take it to a mechanic before you blow the engine and at least pay to get it diagnosed , there could be so many answer to you problem you could spend a ton of money and not ever get to you actual problem on your car.

have the computer scanned on it ,it may have left a trouble code since that one is obd-1 it can easily be erased also,but try that ,also look at the temperature of it,that will play a big role in the way it runs when it gets hot,too hot and it will cut out,you either have an ignition problem or a fuel problem,but both could still be related to a heating problem,id also check the coil on it those were real bad to do this when they got hot,and they will cool off and run good,very possible the coil is going out,good luck with it.,,PS its possible you may have a bad fuel pump since it sat for so long i would consider a fuel pump may be going bad,that's a real good possibility.

If it has an HEI distributor check the solid state module in the distributor. That's the most common problem. O'Riley's and most other parts stores can check it for you. Just make sure they make multiple, consecutive tests. They have to get that module heated uup to see if will still operate when it's hot. When you replace it just make sure you clean the plate in the distributor real good and then put a liberal amount of the heat transfer goop, which comes with the module. That helps the module to transfer heat away so it doesn't fail.

you might check to see if the radiator is new. i've seen alot of Daytonas w/ 2.5L's where the radiator would split and the engine would over heat. everyone i came across would have been seriously overheated and the head was warped. i used to buy them in that condeition cheap...pull the heads, have them milled or one refurbished and put it back together. would turn a pretty good profit.
if it has a turbo on it i would check it out. if the turbo is seized up or not working properly it will cause the motor to run horrible. it will basically reduce the engines ability to push out exhaust.

Plug in the ol' OBD reader and see what the on-board has to say. You might have a screwed up sensor that is causing the car's primitive brain to send incorrect signals to the fuel system.
Can't find Daytonas anymore. Sure miss my 86 Turbo Z.

First thing that came to mind is that the engine is over heating...then I thought that maybe your daytona is getting vapor locked...Either way, it would probably cause your auto to cut out when heated.

First make sure both the cooling fans are going on, then make sure the EGR valve is closing when it idles. After that, I'm stuck.
