you can eat every hour of the day if you decide, its what you eat and how much that determines the body composition.

the whole not eating after "x" time of night is not based on science but on the opinion of many with no real knowledge of human biology. buy not eating after "x" time of day you are prolonging the period that you body is in starvation mode which actually begins about 3-4 hours after the last meal was consumed and the upper digestive tract is empty. this slows the metabolic rate and decreases energy levels. also by not eating at night you have now reduced the number of opportunities that your body has to get nutrients

now the eating before sleep thing. the metabolic rate actually increases during the first sleep cycle then steadily declines until it reaches it's lowest point right before awakening. and the difference between the resting metabolic rate (RMR) and the sleeping metabolic rate (SMR) depends on the body composition of the individual. the less body fat that a person has the less of a decrease there will be from the from the RMR to SMR.

* if you want to lose weight and be healthy you will eat every 3-4 hours that you are awake. at night you just have to make smart food selections like lean proteins and vegetables and some healthy fats.

probably 2.
i always feast before i go to sleep. its a long time for your body to go without food and i like to top it off. i sleep like a baby with a full belly. beware if you eat before you go to bed your more proned to have dreams and gain weight . weight gain due to metabolism slowing down during the night
