It is safe if you follow some basic precautions.

Use only a micro safe dish and make sure it is twice the depth of your liquid. When the timer dings, don't open the door immediately. Let everything settle down a minute before you try to remove it because water can all of a sudden boil up fast when the last bit of time runs out. Also make sure you use a potholder as for some reason when you boil water in the microwave, it makes the dish hotter than usually would happen with food.

You can do it either way. I rarely cover anything in the microwave.

Did you know there is a super easy way to clean the inside of the microwave? Heat up a bowl of water and let it sit for a minute or two. It makes all that stuck on gooey stuff come right off when you wipe down the inside of the microwave.

it is not recommended to use glass because it over heats and explodes. do not cover.
use a mug or plastic container that is microwave safe and set the timer for 30 seconds and keep checking .

Boiling water in a container and letting it sit in the microwave is the best way to clean the oven- the steam makes it super easy to wipe out any grunge.

Absolutely. Water takes about 2-3 minutes to boil in the microwave, depending on the wattage.
In my experience, the water doesn't heat any faster with a lid on or off - its about the same.

It is safe to a point. Just be aware that sometimes when you heat water in a microwave it can "jump" out of the container and scald you. Similar to a "boil over" in a pan on the stove.

Uncovered is best, but beware about the exploding thing. Water that has been purified (even just with reverse osmosis under your sink) does not "boil" even when it is super hot, unlike tap water. (It will boil just at a much higher temperature.) So....when you get it out and add something to it, it will often times boil over. (kind of like baking soda and vinegar!) This is from personal experience unfortunately.

http://www.rense.com/general70/microwaved.htm Does your body metabolize microwaved water in a good way? http://youtube.com/watch?v=_rlJL-2R7T Snopes tried to say it was a false experiment by repeating a half hazard experiment when another person did it for just one day and didn't expand it for 7 days.

Someone else took on the challenge at U Tube that you've just viewed and now science forums are in agreement who have repeated the experiments, that microwaved water does kill plants - And the conclusion is not to reheat your coffee and tea in y0ur microwave or your body will treat it like a toxin and you know...

A swedish study reveals that microwave eating lowers hemoglobin levels and increases your inflammatory hormone which is your LDL levels going up and your HDL's going down.http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards2.htm

the danger comes from pulling out the container. try to use a glass liquid measuring cup that can hold more liquid than you need. Usually takes 3-5 minutes but watch it to see when it starts to boil. If you don't need it to boil than be carful and just test it with a finger. remember, it's hot.:)

It is safe, but be careful... it will go from completely calm to practically exploding before you know it. Better put a cover over it but not sealed.

Also, make sure you use a microwave safe vessel! I never use styrofoam in the mike... who knows what crap is leaching out into the food.

Either, BUTTTTTTTTTT be sure to stir the water before pouring anything into the water. I've had it explode on my hands before. Has something to do with the way the microwave heats it up.
