Are you talking about the starter solenoid located on the inner fender well? If so it has four wires. The battery cable, the starter cable, the "A" terminal and the "S" terminal. The Battery and starter cables go to the two large studs and should be self explanatory. The "A" terminal has a screw post about 1/4 inch diameter which a redstriped green wire with a push on, ninety degree connector goes to. This wire comes from the ignition switch via the wiring harness and activates the solenoid when the ignition switch is thrown to "Start". The "S" terminal is the same size as the "A" terminal and takes a brown wire with a ninety degree push on connector. The brown wire provides 12 volts to the coil during starting. Once the vehicle starts the "S" terminal opens and the coil gets 6 volts, through a resistance wire, from the ignition switch. If it's one of the large terminals that's missing a wire, then the terminal nearest the front of the car should go to the battery and you can buiy the cable at any parts store. If it's the terminal towards th rear of the car it goes to the large lug on the starter. Again you should be able to purchase one at any parts store.

if it is the starter solenoide and it is one of the thicker wirers it goes to to either the battery or the starter. being a 1982 this should get your truck running you may have one wire running to your fuel pump which would make the truck not run. you need to provide more info on the wire!!!

Go to a ford dealer and ask for a schematic of the solenoid. It will show all the parts surrounding it.
