I have lived in NYC for one year now exactly. 10/12 was the deadlines to change party. I have not voted since 2000 in Indiana for Al Gore. I want to vote as a republican in 2008. Can I still? I don't believe IN had me choose party affiliation - you could vote for whoever, so there is no true party affiliation on my part. Can I register anew as a Republican here in NYC? I can't find this issue anywhere in the website. Help!

I would think that you could go to your local election commission or county clerk and register to vote. In most states you only have to be registered 30 days prior to the election. You do not have to be affiliated with a party to vote in general elections. party affiliation is required to vote in primaries, not general elections. As far as that is concerned you can be a registered democrat and vote a straight republican ticket in the general election.

Register as a Republican if you want and inform the party of your political history if they arer willing to get your vote.
