if it's not the covenant God wanted the Jews to follow then what IS the covenant in this passage:
"Then the LORD said: "I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the LORD, will do for you." to Moses

Very good question!!!

The ten are the big ones so to speak but a righteous jew has 600+ more covenant laws to adhere to. As I recall 613 with the ten commandments

It is tough work to be chosen. While We tend to think God chose the jews as special, he really chose them for special tasks. That is why jews do not seek converts to Judaism, because it is great work. they accept converts, but it takes time and sincerity.

Jews believe it is far better to be a righteous Christian than a bad jew.

the covenant with Abraham requires jews to follow God's laws and he will not desert them, but help them prosper.

The ten commandments, and the rest of the law, make up the old covenant. This covenant was between God and the children of Israel. No others could be a party to it unless they underwent circumcision.

Exodus 34:28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Deuteronomy 4:13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

This covenant is like a contract, and Paul uses a marriage contract to explain it in Romans 7.

Christians were never a party to that covenant.

As with such covenants, the death of either party ends the covenant.

Jesus was the God of the old covenant, and died on the cross, thus ending that covenant. The Jewish Christians were also described as dying to that covenant through baptism, so that they would be freed from that covenant in order to enter into the new covenant directly with Christ.

No. The Covenant was between G-d and Abraham. It's the Covenant of circumcision (brit milah). As long as Jews follow their part of the Covenant (circumcise their boys on the 8th day), G-d keeps his part (Jewish poeple continue to exist).
This is the most sacred aspect of Judaism and one that's pretty much fulfilled by every Jew, regardless of level of observance. The Covenant was again given with the Torah to Moses.

The Ten Commandments were given to Moses together with the Torah after the Exodus from Egypt.

Sort of. The covenant with the Abraham, " I will make you and your decendants into a great people, whose numbers will exceed that of the stars in the sky, or the grains of sand on the beach, so long as they keep their fellowship with me." Hundreds of years later, when they Israelites were en route to the Promised Land, the ten commandments were given to them. It was not a fulfillment of the covenant, rather a contract outlining the relationship between God's chosen and God.

the covenant between the Jews and God was....

Passage Exodus 6:7:
7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.

so the covenant, is the promise of God's protection of His people if His people choose Him to be their God...to turn from idols and follow Him, and He will provide for them.

There is a quick answer for this. Yes, they are the same. The reason is that Christianity derives from the Jewish believe. As Religious history shows, Christianity derives from Catholicism and Catholicism derives Judaism. Many religious branches have derived from this line. All you have to do is compare the Old testament with the Tanakh. It also is important to note that Constantine had made some changes in the Bible to follow his understanding of the religion.

No. There are over 300 laws in the OT, and observant Jews have to follow all of them (and all of the ones coming from Midrash and Talmud). That's the covenant. 10 Commandments don't scratch the surface.

The "Covenant" was established much earlier with Abraham.
That GOD would lead his people & they would follow GOD.
