I have a male cat that is about 2 months old. We just got another new kitten that is about 8 weeks old. When we brought the new kitten home our old cat got really funny acting...smelling of him and so on...now he's starting to get closer and when he does he sort of attacts him and bites the back of his neck...(like a momma would pick up her babies) and while going for the kittens neck he hovers over him like he's gonna hump him...could my new can REALLY be a female???? help please, if it's a female I want to take it back for a male...femals are more expensive to get fixed????

The worker said that the cat was a male...but I have had them be wrong before!!! The first time I ever got a cat they told me that it was a female but it ended up being a male.

I doubt your cat is gay. If Cody isn't neutered he is old enough to have reached sexual maturity and will try and hump any cat he can. You should get him neutered if he isn't already. If he is fixed then he is just trying to establish dominance over your other cat. As for the licking, cats that are friends groom each other to show affection. It doesn't matter if they re male or female. Most cats don't like to get dirty, cats are very tidy creatures, and some just don't like to play rough. that doesn't mean he is feminine.

This sounds like a dominance issue rather than a "mating" issue. Your older cat wants to show his dominance over the new cat. This is not very uncommon. Dogs will hump other dogs of the same sex all the time to show their dominance..they will even do it to people to show they are the alpha dog. Let them work out who is the boss, as long as they are not truly injuring each other. As the kitten gets older it too may try and show its dominance and may challenge your older cat. They will work out a hierarchy.

Non-neutered male cats will hump anyone, regardless if it's male or female. It's only expensive when you want to fix the female while it's still in heat, rather than wait it out.

My two male cats do the same thing. The 6 year old sometimes humps the four year old. They are both fixed, so I have no idea what it means. I wouldn't worry too much about it...

look at the rear of the cat....lift the tail up, if you can see what appears to be 2 holes, it is a girl, if you can only see one easily, its a boy, and the behavior is perfectly normal, hovering doesn't mean the kitten is a girl, my 2 boys play like this all the time

They're establishing dominance. One has to be the alpha male and he's teaching the other cat that he is not the king of the household. My female dogs do it to each other. It's not sexual, one just has to show who's boss.

I don't know about gay, but sometimes animals are just messed up. My aunt had a dog that liked to hump cats!
