the prophet, pbuh, said that a litre or a kilogram of water is enough, and Allah, swt, stated that He does not love those who waste. Further, the prophet, pbuh, said that even if we're near a flowing river, we should not waste water.
in ghusl, 4 -5 litres is enough.

alhamduallah for reminding me about this fir3awn matter.
about the flow of water from faucet, many american standards have "low flow faucet aerator" that seem to pour so much water bc of the pressure but actually is full of air bubbles and saves about 50 % of standard faucet, same with shower heards. see link:
http://www.eartheasy.com/live_lowflow_aerators.htm
although water is measured in volumes, the weight of a liter of water is almost 1 kilogram, they made that standard, as with cups, about 5 cups per liter.
Fr ch.35 of summarized sahih al bukhari, To perform wudu wit one MUDD of water. ( MUDD is about 2/3 of a kg)
narrated(anas, ra: the prophet, pbuh, used to take a bath with one SA or up to 5 MUDD(1 SA=4 MUDD) of water and used to perform ablution with 1 MUDD of water.

Hi there, Pharaoh (man, your nick reminds me so much of Fir3awn)!

I have never come across a hadeeth that would mention how much water is enough for wudhu or ghusl, not to forget that Rasulullah s.a.w.s. and his asHab r.a.a. didn't use SI units, they had their own units, but they never measured water as there was no need for it. Water is normally measured in litres, as it is its volume that matters, not its mass, unless for specific problems in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.

The only thing that was mentioned is not to waste water, as you have mentioned yourself, Raulullah s.a.w.s. said: save water even if you are performing your ablution in a river.

It is possible to take ablution with very little water, I remember when I went hiking with my friend both of us performed our ablution from a 0.5 litre bottle.

You can take ghusl with 4-5 litres of water but make sure you wash yourself well, as a clean slave is dearer to Allah than a dirty one. Don't be shy, use soap and shampoo, and please don't ask me to show you how...

-------

Take as much water as you find sufficient, we are different, some need more, some need less. But forget not that hygiene is part of Islam, so don't be stingy when taking ghusl. There is no shariah minimum and no shariah maximum on the usage of water. There is just the recommendation not to use too much.

The hadeeth you mentioned is true but you forgot something: that is just one narration, it doesn't indicate any consistency on stipulated measurements, it is just like when Aisha r.a. said she had never seen Rasulullah s.a.w.s. urinating standing, while other of his ashab, r.a., report that Nabiyy a.s. sometimes urinated standing when travelling. It doesn't make Aisha a liar or her narration dha'eef, it is just something that was not of her knowledge. There is no indication that a mudd is recommended amount to be used for wudhu'.

And for the sake of Allah s.w.t. who sent down the Qur'an, and took Fir'awn's life away and preserved him to be a reminder for later generations, change your nick and avatar.

I have this in the winter sometimes too, and I have had eczema... There is a homeopathic remedy which helps me, it is called "Graphites", I use a potency of D12, three times a day. The main symptom for this remedy is the "cracking" of skin, also on heels, and having hangnails. Really, this does work after a week or so. I am also taking it these days, also because of the weather. I rarely need it in the summer. If you can´t get it, perhaps I can send it to you. A bottle only costs ca.6 Euro here in Germany, so this is not an expensive experiment. I know what you´re going through, so that´s why I hope you´ll give this a go. I can´t judge as to whether or not this would allow tayammum. I would however suggest taking wudu once for the midday prayer, doing this a bit later, and doing the afternoon prayer (almost) early, and then doing the same for the eve.&night prayers, as I have seen this suggested in hadith for other conditions. Good luck, sis. Let me know. Salams!

Yes this is correct. When I was in the states, I used to waste water when washing dishes and making wudu and in general. Now that I am in a country whereas the people are limited to many resources, I realized how much I use to waste and I really feel bad. Most of the people here use a little bucket full of water to make wudu and that is sufficient. When I go back to the states, I get very angry to see family and friends wasting water and anything for that matter. I guess when we grow up in a place used to using things in large portions and have excess of everything, it is hard to realize our faults or admit them. It was just normal. JaazakAllaahu kahirun

I don't know, I wade pretty fast so I need the water running. But in general when I brush my teeth and wash my face I turn the water off while doing so. Green living helps the environment, and everyone can help the environment with little action on their part.

yes, you are right. I use less than a liter for wadu and its more than enough. I try to save water as much as I can like while brushing teeth in the morning, i close the tap n all. And while ghusl, again don't waste it.

Change your nick na... seriously, a sincere suggestion :)
