I love looking at the night sky!
I like looking for the different constellations.
It is so vast and hard for us to imagine how big it really is.
I often wonder what else is out there on the other side of the Universe. What kind of life forms? Do they have a socialized civilization? What do they look like?
It is a mysterious and wondrous entity, as I feel it is in itself a living thing as a whole, to be marveled.
I never tire of it.

I don't feel connected. I feel minute, but I'm okay with that. I guess, in a way I DO feel connected, in that I think that folks on the other side of the planet are seeing the same stars as me.
Then I realize that both past & future generations all see what I am now seeing. That does give me a connected feeling, so I guess you were right.
Isn't it beautiful? I remember years ago, on a tiny country road in Elkhart, Indiana early one dark night, my fiance & I laid out in the middle of the country & just stared up at the sky & mindlessly chatted. It was so beautiful & enchanting....

I have told this story so many times here, but its worth telling again! I was helping do a bird survey for a ranch in the Texas hill country, far away from any city. We went out at night to look for owls. The milky way was spread across the sky. We got our spotting scopes out and did some scanning. I was absolutely overwhelmed. I felt this sense of the immensity of the universe. I turned to my friend and said "THIS is why I don't believe in God!" People always expect me to say the opposite, but it truly makes me realize that we are so very very very tiny. It makes the idea of a personal god seem extremely arrogant.

It's a very cool sight, and very hard to come by anymore. Did you know there's a comet in the Northern sky these days? It's Comet Holmes. You can't see the tail because it's pointed away from us, but it looks like a fuzzball through a decent pair of binoculars. Look for Cassiopea (The big "W") and then for a triangle of stars a little below it.

The fact that we have to have a universal spiritual force or spirit, to hold this wonderful universe together into an organic functioning whole, becomes very apparent, when we look at such an immense picture in the sky.

Yes. Last time I had a long look I was lying on my back watching a meteor shower a few months ago. Unfortunately a flea found me...
There are many people who have never seen a satellite, and are unaware that on a clear night you can see them from Earth!

Yes. One of my favorite ways to pass time is go drive out to the country where there is little or no light pollution and set up my telescope and look at the universe all night long.

i hate how light pollution ruins the night sky. i've only seen the clear night sky on a mountain once... above the light pollution. i hope we can do something about light pollution before theres a day where we might never be able to see the clear night sky at all.

I think more people should. You lose touch with the universe living inside a temperature controlled box, with everything plastic and metal.
