You will have to prove yourself in basic (Boot Camp). Scoring well at the rifle range is a must, as is doing very well in PT and general attitude. Don't be afraid to volunteer in training or class, be a team player. When assigned to a leadership role, do your best, when in the role as a follower, follow the leaders instructions. You will be assigned both as you will be evaluated on both. Don't get into an argument with a guy who has been assigned a leader in a particular task, even if he is screwing up. It is his to screw up. Do your best to do what he says, don't contradict him or try to take over. You don't want guys trying to tell you what to do when it is your turn. Army snipers are in excellent physical condition, are extremely disciplined, and are smarter than the average trooper. You will want to graduate toward the top of your basic class. All of the same goes for infantry training. You will want to do well once you get assigned to an infantry unit as your superiors are the ones who will recommend you to sniper school. If they don't think you are up to it or don't deserve it, they won't send in your name. Stay out of trouble. Having disciplinary problems will nix you real fast.
Snipers do a lot more than shoot people. They collect intellegence, call in air or artillery strikes, scout ahead in dangerous areas. Mark LZs and drop zones. They do a lot and a lot is demanded and expected from them. There is not a fast track to be a sniper. That is why there is a certain pride in being one. It takes lots of hard work, dedication, the right attitude and some honest skill. You can do it if you set your mind and body to it and keep your focus while many are trying to distract you. Some because they don't care about your goals, others because they are seeing if you can be distracted. Remember, from the time you step off the bus you are being evaluated, and will continue to be as long as you are in the military. Good Luck.

First you have to finish basic and Airborne school. The once you get to your unit you need to tell you NCO that you will like to go to sniper school.
He will give you two options fill out a DA 4187 recuesting sniper school and send that form to branch. Other way to goin is goin online to your AKO account then go to Army Human resourse and volunteer to sniper school and you may come down DA selected in about a year or just wait to your reelisment and put it in your contract

Show out in basic at the range, stay out of trouble. If you dont get selected, you fill out a packet for it just like any other school. As soon as a slot opens and you meet the prerequisites, you'll get the OK to go, from your unit.

Yes there are slot given out on a performance basis. If you do not get one when you get to your first duty assignment go to your Squad leader to help you go the Battalion S1 and fill out a DA4187 and apply for the school.

Use the chain of command. You will learn about it in Basic. That's the ONLY way that works.
Also, be the best shot in your unit.
