I do. I believe there have been other instances, too, that were not recorded in the Bible.

See Exodus 33:11 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/ex/33/11#11

Do you know of any other face to face encounters with God, recorded in the Bible or other holy writ?

Thanks everyone for your sincere answers. There are certainly a lot of different views on this issue. It's hard to choose who to pick for "best answer" because my question was asking for your personal opinion, which everyone seems to have given, lol! :-)

I believe that God spoke face to face with Moses.
I also believe that when we look for truth in other books written in this world we can be deceived by Satan into believing lies..

No, it was through an angel.
Jehovah himself told Moses: “You are not able to see my face, because no man may see me and yet live.”—Exodus 33:20; John 1:18.
That should not surprise us. Moses got to see just a part of Jehovah’s glory, evidently through an angelic representative. With what effect? Moses’ face “emitted rays” for some time afterward. The Israelites feared even to look directly at Moses’ face. (Exodus 33:21-23; 34:5-7, 29, 30

Angelic voices. On other occasions when God ‘spoke,’ angels were used as his representatives to provide the vocal manifestation. Angels represented God in speaking to Moses in Mount Horeb and to Israel, assembled near the foot of the mountain. (Ex 34:4-7; 20:1-17; Ga 3:19) These angels sometimes did not present any visible appearance of a form, as when the voice came from the quaking, smoking mountain. (Ex 20:18, 19; De 4:11, 12; Heb 12:18, 19)

Moses was a man, yes, but he also had a special calling. He was chosen by God to be His prophet and as such, he was the mouthpiece of God, he spoke as a prophet to deliver God's will to the people. Because he was a prophet, he was a spiritual man with a holy calling, and was able to receive the blessings and privileges that came with that calling as long as he remained faithful. This includes dreams and visions as well as other gifts of the spirit. Only a couple or a few of the very righteous of men were able to see God. Moses was one of these and so was the brother of Jared. Job was a perfect man according to God (not physically, but spiritually) because even during his trials he obeyed God in all things and remained faithful. Who knows, he may have seen God too; not everything was recorded because there wouldn't be room to contain everything that ever happened.

Sure, a UFO came down over the mountain and God as the alien gave to him the tablets of stone they made for man. There was a great light so strong from the light Moses face glowed afterward.

It is making reference to the relationship between God and Moses. The close, intimacy, fellowship and communion between them. The rest of the verse explains; Exodus 33:11;
Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. This is the type of intimacy that all believers can have with God because this is what He desires.

.We don't realize that when these people went up into the mountain or out into the desert for extended periods of time, they never brought a weeks supply of food, they foraged which means eating plants and animals that were available. Today we know that eating the wrong plant can alter to a person's consciousness. I'm not saying that this is what happened but we can't go back and find out so we live with what was written by the people of that time.

No...the Bible says it is impossible to see God and live. He saw God's glory. It seems improbable he spoke directly with Moses as well. Most Bible accounts has Jehovah speaking through an angel, not directly to man.

One account tells us his voice sounded like thunder and was not understandable to those around.

I think that Moses did have a deep, direct encounter with God. I don't think that the word-for-word details are necessarily recorded in the Bible. I think what we have are the legacy of oral traditions which have been edited and redacted by various groups with their own perspectives and agendas.

There are other very significant theophanies in the Bible - for example Elijah's, Jonah's, Ezekiel's and of course, Jesus' (at his baptism and the 'Transfiguration'). Ezekiel's may be the only one that represents his own direct thoughts and words, unedited by others.

Peace to you.

actually, "face-to-face" would exclude the possibility of seeing the different man or woman's face because of the fact the faces would be touching. contained in the custom of the time, each and each pal's mouth would be close to the different pal's ear. there is no contradiction, only an incorrect interpretation. The Bible does no longer contain a single contradiction. there have been many blunders in interpretation.

No the Bible says if anyone were to see the face of God He would fall in awe and not be able to stand and that Moses only saw His back side and He was still too bright for the men to even look at!!

No.Moses petitioned Jehovah: “Cause me to see, please, your glory.” Recognizing that Moses could not see His face and yet live, Jehovah said: “I myself shall cause all my goodness to pass before your face.”—Exodus 33:13-20.
“Here is a place with me, and you must station yourself upon the rock. And it has to occur that while my glory is passing by I must place you in a hole in the rock, and I must put my palm over you as a screen until I have passed by. After that I must take my palm away, and you will indeed see my back. But my face may not be seen.”—Ex. 33:18-23.
