i heard somthing about worms being a reason. most likely because his anus is itching for whatever reason. if it is something he does WAY too much i'd take him to the vet and check it out.

I agree with Houndly. Dogs rubbing their bottom on the carpet is usually a sign of their anal glands needing to be expressed. It could possibly be worms, but in most cases, it's the anal glands. As Houndly said, a vet or groomer can do this for you.

I would say worms... Now as gross as this sounds look at the area where he was "rubbing" and see if there are any worms. You might also look at the sourse of the problem if you know what I mean. Another clue that he has worms is weight loss. He may have gotten into something say in the trash or at the park, like a dead squirl.

Actually it's a sign he needs his anal glands expressed (emptied). He is uncomfortable. Usually dogs can do this themselves when they have bowel movements, but sometimes it doesn't happen so the glands fill up. It's a very simple procedure that a vet or groomer can do.

Houndly is correct. He needs to have his anal glands expressed. Any vet or qualified groomer can perform the procedure.

Possibly plugged up anal glands. They do the "butt scootin' doggie" to relieve the pressure.
