Why do people just guess that witchs are evil? I'm a witch, and i'm not evil, Only the people with the dark magick are sorta evil i guess. and i think it'ds ridiculus that some people think we have green skin and black hair... i mean what the heck? What do you think about Witchs? Do you think We're evil? Do you think were ugly, Green, black haired people? Do you think were not normal? i mean really. My Cousin hates witchs (when she never met one! exept for me, but she has no clue that i'm a witch) and she's like aginst us ans tsuff. Why though, by what you have heard or read somewhere? why are some still aginst witchs? Why do some think witchs are evil? This includes Wiccas, since their practicly the same thing.

I find it rather annoying that some think these stuipid things, i even bet some wish there was still a burning time *shivers* so, my questions are Why are some STILL agienst witchs/wiccas because of it? why do they think were freaks and evil? thanks.

Well Brianne, I saw a FEW good, logical, thinking answers and a whole lot of BS (you poor thing).
And here I go again, NOT ALL WITCHES ARE WICCAN! As some are still intimating. And as you are aware neither witches nor Wiccans are evil. There has always been a lot of negative propaganda, started by and the flames continually flamed by he Religious Reich Christians.
I am quite appreciative of the answers by Inner Coven & Lady Cedar. Intelligent and well thought out, as too many of my answers are not. I tend to speak and then think
What people fail to see or try to understand is that witches (whether Wiccan or not) would not hurt a fly and I don't know what the one IDIOT was into who was claiming blood sacrifices but it was obviously NOT witchcraft. I think he is just another person who likes to stir up trouble and perpetuate the myth that witches are evil. The world would be much better off if people like that were like Pinochio and their nose would grow every time they lied. There would be a lot of really funny looking people around!

Some witches are evil. Sorry, but it's true. As benevolent as most "witch" religions are, there are the select few seriously evil ones that grab the most media attention. Why do alot of witches think Christians are zealous, judgemental, hate-mongerers? Because of the select Christians who chose to present themselves that way.

The conflict will always exist. Just like the whole miscommunication between men and women, the hate between the Democrats and the Republicans, etc. I could go on forever. We put ourselves on two sides of the same coin, but in the end, it's still the same human coin.......

Why the burning times:
Witches were originally procecuted for their knowledge in herbal medicine, and before they were accused of witchcraft these women were first midwives and herbalists. They were accused due to the fact that they knew many different remedies for medical issues we have today such as the cold, sore throats, headaches and even remedies for birth control & abortion. Along with that they even knew which herbs were poisions. That would scare anyone who doesn't have this knowledge and is in power. (hint: the church) That and at this time they were also trying to push the modern medicine practices we have today, ie. the patriotic male doctors, powders & pills such as asprin. So to incrase the minority, destroy the majority by making it "evil". Hence any woman whether mother, sister, aunt or daughter with the knowledge of home remedies was accused. So it wasn't just a "witch hunt" it was removing the old ways to put in a new system that was sponsered by the new religion.

Why they're evil:
The unknown is scary and claiming something as evil makes it easier to stear away from for those who don't want to think for themselves. Brainwashing is a very effective if you don't have a very solid base of personal ethics and ideals. And getting your base from any other source than from within yourself will always leave you unstable and easily swayed. However if you have a strong foundation, you can then get the facts from both sides of any situation and make a logical decision for yourself. Otherwise you will constantly be told what to think about things like witches and witchcraft.

New male driven society:
Another thing to think about is that in webster's dictionary the three wise men are listed in the description for magus, ie. male witches or men who practice witchcraft. However under the description for a female witch they are construed as evil. Another example where the church was enforcing their patriotic male driven society that only women who practice witchcraft are evil, not men. If people were to take the time to learn a little about magic, not all is done thru the power of humans, some is done with the help of deities or gods. yes most pagans/wiccans believe in more than one god but if you take the practice of using the power of an entity more powerful than you to produce magic than Moses practiced magic to bring on the plegues because he used god's power to make it happen. If you consider that Moses caused so many egyptians to suffer just for the sake of his people, you could think of him as evil. But that's for another time.

Witches are given stigma of being evil because of religious (particularly Christian) teachings against the use of sorcery and magic because they are heretical, just as they have been for almost three thousand years.

Your question confuses me as you say that you are "witch". I assume you mean that you are a practitioner of Wicca. Wiccans prefer to call themselves witches, so it's their own fault that they must bear the burden of the stigma associated with such. Most uneducated people don't know that Wicca is a nature-based religion and that the practices associated with it are religious as well, and choose to draw opinions of Wiccans based on the stories they have heard about witches of the past.

The stigma against witches will never change, I'm afraid, because most stories about them are drawn from the Bible and Christianity, and according to the Bible a witch is a sorceress and conjurer of black magic.

If Wiccans do not wish to be stereotyped against they should not proclaim themselves to be witches, as it's just asking for someone to misunderstand them.

People associate witchcraft with spells to hurt people and wish evil upon others. That is a misconception, a stereotype, but it is one that you face.
Perhaps it is better to not let people know you are a witch....like in the film "Rosemary's Baby." That was about Satanic Witches....LaVey type stuff.

Well since witches are usually portrayed as "bad, evil" people, like for Halloween, people just assume they are bad. But in movies and such, there are almost always a good witch too!

I think people believe how witches have been portrayed by Christians and by Hollywood. Maybe someone should produce a movie with witches portrayed in accordance with reality. I think witches can be very sexy. Are you a sexy witch?

Some people are ignorant, some people believe what they are told and others just don't want to like someone who's different.

Wicca is the religion, the followers are Wiccans and most are witches.

People think of the cliche witch, which is all bad PR. If they educated themselves even a little about it they'd learn that there's nothing evil about it.
