Assuming a bar shuts down at 2am...exactly the time daylight savings time ends, I've always wondered if on that day they keep the bar open an hour longer or still close at 2am. Hey, I'm not an alchie, I swear- but I'm tempted to be sitting on a barstool this Saturday night just to find out!

It's been a long time since I've worked in a bar. So looking back, we used to have to have the last drink served by 1:30 and the bar cleared at 2:00 and closed. Daylight savings time ending didn't change until 2:00, so no matter what the bar was closed. Nowadays, I'm not so sure. It seems like people get served right up to the last minute, but unless I'm wrong, they would still have to close the bar at 2:00, and the drunks just get an extra hour to sober up in the morning.

Clocks should be turned back 1 hour at 2:00 am. This means that once the clock strikes 2:00 am you turn the clock back to 1:00 am meaning the bars could be open for the extra hour but I believe it is up to the discretion of the owner whether or not they actually let you stay for that extra hour.

Since most bar staff are paid for the shift and not by the hour, most bars stay open for the usual amount of time and then change their clocks after they close.

It's like if you were on a train that was running on a schedule and the clocks were changed, the train wouldn't stop and wait an hour so the schedule catches up, would it?

Depends what pub/club your in but every year when i've been out they stayed open wherever i was. What pub is going to turn down the chance of an hours extra money!!! We turned the clocks back last week in england and from what i heard most of the clubs stayed open for the extra hour.

The real answer is NO. At least for most U.S. states where liquor laws apply. It is because bars actually close at 1:59, so when time change comes, the bar is already closed...or at least it is supposed to be!

time change is official at 2 am so i doubt the bar's will stay open since they usually give people the boot at 1:45

It's been awhile since I've hung out in bars/clubs but I think you get the extra hour.
