A friend of mine has 3 dogs (2small-1large) she's thinking about getting another small dog. Would 4 be to much?

Note: She takes good care of the 3 she has. She is not a "breeder/backyard breeder" She has all her dogs up to date with their shots and all 3 are spayed/neutered.

No, as long as she can maintain to take good care of her dogs. According to your description, she seems a good and responsible dog owner.

If she has the time to give to them, 4 is not too many. We have 6. :O) And 7 cats.....and 5 horses....and a parrot.... and a 3000 gallon "pond" with koi..... Gee....can you tell we never had kids? And let's see....all except one of the dogs are spayed/neutered (and she hasn't had a litter in 12 years....just never got around to snipping her) all of the cats are spayed... mares aren't routinely spayed, but the males are gelded.... Nope....not a backyarder here, either.

I have 4 dogs (2 big, 2 small) and I don't think it's too much. As long as she has the room and the ability to care for them, I don't think one more will make any difference.

i have four dogs a rottie/shepherd mix, pit, husky and a yorkie. as long as the are loved and well cared for with enough space it's fine. but make sure there aren't any laws restricting the amount of dogs you can own. in my city the maximum is 4. some don't have any laws. some have a higher max and some have a lower max.

I have seven dogs, five of them rescues which I intended to re-train and re-home but ended up keeping them as my own.
I think if you are completely capable for giving individual care and attention to each dog and provide a great home for ALL the dogs, you can have as many as you want, as long as you abide by local pet limit laws.
As long as all the dogs are altered, it seems perfectly okay.

Some people should not have ONE dog, much less more than one, but a lot of dog-lovers are perfectly capable of caring for their many dogs.

I cannot see having less than four dogs, I just love my pack.

I can easily feed, groom, walk, exercise, train, cuddle, love, supply, and care for 9 dogs, which I had up until last year. All of my dogs are active, competitive dogs, all altered, all well-mannered and very very very loved!!

My seven are:

2 rescued Aussies
one Rescue Golden
one spayed, finished show Golden
one Rescued PRT
one rescued KleinSpitz
one spayed. finished show Toller

If there are no laws in the area regarding how many dogs a person has and she is able to care for them. The choice is hers.

It's only too much when she can't afford to take care of them all or if she's neglecting to get a kennel license or something the city requires.

If she cares for them properly and gives them enough time and attention then I don't see a problem with her getting another dog.

AS LONG AS SHE KEEPS TAKING CARE OF THEM!
I HAVE HAD 7 DOGS AT ONCE
JUST MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS THE RESPONBILITIES OF *4* DOGS!
