Hi we were talking about removing what we though was decorative paneling in my daughters room and drywalling. But when we removed a oiece its not typical paneling it looks like drywall with some sort of decorative paper on it? Does anyone know what this could be. Could we just plaster of it? Thanks

Its called Vinyl coated drywall paneling. It is usually about 3/8" thick. Although not as durable as 1/2" thick drywall, you can pull the strips off the seams and mud/tape them. Ive done it a few times and you would never know it wasnt real drywall.

It may be the same stuff used in mobile homes. It is plasterboard with wallpaper applied at the factory. If you are going to plaster, you will need the wire mesh and probably a moisture barrier since it would suck the water out of the plaster and cause mold.

Maybe its just a heavy wall-paper. Try steaming it off or a wall-paper removal tool or chemical and see what happens.
