Most nonprofit organizations, including places that help people with Alzheimers, have an orientation process for new volunteers. The volunteer manager will provide an overview of the organization, talk to you about various volunteer tasks, and talk to you about policies regarding volunteers. This manager will also talk to you about what skills you have and what you want to do, to make sure you are put into a role in which you feel comfortable. If your mother hasn't arranged for you to meet this person, then do so immediately; you could be held liable for actions onsite if you do not go through official channels in order to volunteer at this organization.

Do you know how to play the piano? (most nursing homes have one) If so, just play some basic songs.
