Okay I need your opinion about a story of a Chinese woman who immigrated to Canada, whether she deserved the citizenship or not, please explain as well, I can't choose which side I need explanations from brighter people like you to make up my mind.

There was an old Chinese woman, about 70 years old presently, she immigrated to Canada 30 years ago with her husband when she was about 40 years old and 5 year old son, her husband eventually passes away and she is left alone in canada with her son ,

THEN many years later(which is the present, shes 70 years old now and her 5 year old son is now a grown up university graduate)
,, one day she reads a bi-weekly community newspaper that the Ministry of Immigration is sending back immigrants to their country, so then immediately she tells her son to get her a citizenship, after all these 30 years she feels the need of getting a citizenship so she doesnt get sent back

----I WILL EXTEND THE STORY, READ MY EXTENDED MESSAGE DUE TO THE WORD LIMIT-

So, they go to the immigration court and apply a citizenship for her. The requirements are that she must be able to speak english and pass the oral interview.

The thing is, she doesnt even know how to speak english after living in canada for 30 years, she knows few words like chicken, etc.
The reason why she did not learn english was because she was afraid that she would lose her "chinese soul", she constantly call the white canadian woman "white devils" that leaves their parents and puts lipstick, etc

then the day of the interview, she is not able to speak english, but the judge gives her the citizenship anyway saying that she went through all that trouble at an old age for citizenship and canada is a multicultural country,

end of story-----

Here is my thought: If she is 70, she won't live much longer anyway (probably), so, taking her away from the country she has known for nearly half of her life would be a mistake. Also, if her child is there and the family is a contributing member of society, I don't think there is a danger in letting her stay. Her opinions about the "white devils" are unnerving, but, truthfully, there are plenty of racists that are born into citizenship, and, at 70, I am sure she will just sound like an old racist rambling... I don't think she poses a danger, I think the compassionate thing to do is to let her die near to her son and family.

A toughie.

Usually they're a bit softer with older people stating that they're a bit too old to change their ways, and that we should let them rest in peace.

I think that this old woman may have already lost part of her "Chinese soul" having lived in Canada for so long and her wanting to stay there instead of China.

I am curious though. Doesn't Canada require people to take an oath of citizenship?

It sounds like she had the equivelent of Permanent Residence or a Green card which allowed her to remain (as a result she was able to get citizenship).

I would have let her sit on the fence for awhile. If she wants to have that attitude and not assimalate (sounds like she's only there for the benefits) well. I would have given her the citizenship but after she sweat it out.

well can i say one thing Canada is dual speaking i thought French speaking areas and English. just a thought but that is the way i know of Canada. Quebec and somewhere else is mostly French speaking and they don't speak English there. so under your idea of not speaking English then they should not be considered Canadian. On the point of a person living in a country that speaks a different Language i can ask this. How many English speaking people when they have lived in say Arabia speak Arabic fluently after wards. not to mention the British. very few of them that lived in South Africa know Swahili or does who lived in India all their lives knew Hindi.

If the only rule that she had to abide by was that she speaks English and after 30 years she didn't care enough to learn the language, I think they would be correct in instituting deportation hearings on her behalf.

Sorry, but rules are rules. They were nice enough to give her the chance and she blew it.

On the assumption that every detail of the story you posted is accurate: no.

Then again, it's Canadian citizenship. Canada invented multi-culturalism, so they probably deserve her.

well i know from experiance that getting canadian citizenship takes a good while and takes alot of money.
i think that if she really wanted to stay there she should of got citizenship along time ago. i hate it when people illegaly imigrate to other countrys what makes them any diffrent than all the other people that wanna leave there country. they should do it legaly!!
illegal immigration is wrong

I'm completely lost because you didn't mention if she was legal or illegal. If she was legal that meant she was a legal permanent resident and I don't understand why they would send her back and if she was illegal she couldn't get citizenship until she became a legal resident first. So please be more specific...but regardless of everything they should give her a chance and let her stay.

She should of been 'natralised' after that time, but it really annoys me when people come to Britain and they dont even bother to speak english!! Then they should bugger off back to where they came from

Yes she is entitled to her citizenship. Don't sweat it, she is 70 years old, it really doesn't matter anymore.
