I need help too!!! I just started back at the gym, then my back went out AGAIN and I haven't been able to go. I refuse to cook one thing for my husband and something else for me. Lots of people have told me PORTION control and exercise--they always through in exercise, I get so tired of hearing that. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I'm in the same boat--so I'm open for ideas too!!

usually the motivation is when you find yourself needing larger clothes and you don't have the money to buy them. Motivation is when you can't sit in a chair anymore without flowing over the sides. Motivation is when you break a chair or a belt on a dress you really love wearing. Motivation is when you find no one wants to date your or go out with you or you find people motivating away from you. Motivation is when you want to enjoy the beach and realize you no longer fit into a sexy bikini, or you notice a second chin and jowls and an indentation in your throat area (and so does everyone else, in fact they look at that instead of your chest), or you realize your blood pressure or cholesterol is raised and you don't have insurance to take care of those should something happen to you....shall I go on? When you realize you can't do these things anymore and you really want to, then "that's" your motivation to make a change. No one else can motivate you, and you have to set for yourself a prize at the end of the tunnel, something to work toward.
Giving up sugar, sugary drinks (includes coffee, tea, soda, etc.), drinking less water (water is heavy and adds weight), eating a vegetarian diet, eating less than 1200 calories per day (with all the calories in food these days, it means only eating just one meal a day). And, exercise (even if it's just 50 times doing leg stretches with each leg) while laying down watching tv. And, take a multi-vitamin a day, AND, this is important, have one 200 mg chromium picolonate pill to move your metabolism per day.
The best way to diet is to make a lifestyle change, some people lose 25 pounds in a year. I lost 17 and am keeping it off. Twice I lost 35 pounds. Once it was by not eating and drinking only soup squares (twice a day) and chewing diet gum...that was bad to do. Another time it was by eating only salads, working all day, resting and then going out to dance for three hours each night for weeks on end. Losing weight is not a quick thing. And 25 lbs by February, I think not.

Eat less red meats, eggs, pork every day. Try to eat no junk foods or sodas at all, what that stuff does to your system is terrible. Eat more fresh veggies from Farmer's Markets if possible and more fresh fruits for snacks. Drink organic fruit juices and 6 to 8 bottles of water every day. Walk. Walk after work at the least two miles or work your way up to two miles every day. Get to where you are doing 5 miles every day. Do this and if you are like me you will loose 30 pounds in 30 days. Very simple, easy routine to do and I am always here to back you up. I did it and for the most part I enjoyed what happened to me. I got more energy, more stamina, more mental power and more all-around vitality from this routine. You can too. It is never too late to start unless you never start. Keep a chart showing how much you completed everyday and stick to it. By February when I get Medicare and my little wheelie thingy you should be looking like a high school girl again. Good luck. Best wishes.

Granny, If you are serious I would look at reducing the sugar and trans fat. Also, one way I have gotten my boyfriend to shed almost 75 pounds over the last year and a half (and kept it off) was to remind him to leave one bite of everything on his plate and not ask for seconds. Took some time...simple retraining.
By doing this his stomach has decreased in size and now it takes less to make him feel fuller quicker.
You Can Do It!!!
PS....do not give up what you love....just take tastes to satisfy the craving so there is no bingeing in the end.

Granny,
I could be your diet partner but I am afraid you would not like to accept me as one. I have a strictly raw diet of leafy and fruit vegetanle, buttermilk and raw milk. No salt.No oil or ghee. No cooking of any kind This works out to be an entirely carbohydrate diet. For proein suplements I take half a bowl of raw groudnut.
(I lost clear 23 kgs. in six months ) Beware it would make you lean, very much so. I cannot sleep on my back since the stomach amost touches. Have to sleep sideways.Energy you are full of. I can easilsy negotiate a small hillock on bike non=stop. There is no quantitative restriction on intake. Eat as much as you want without fearing for any sideeffects.
To start with you may find it rather difficult but as you go along even bitter vegetables taste good. You can take half a dozen green chillies at a time without burning of your mouth.
Well, welcome aboard if you want---and you dare.

My sister said this as she tipped the scales at 25 overweight, then fifty, then 100.
Soon she went from a beautiful petite blond at 115 to 325 pounds and wouldn't go outside anymore.
She went through a divorce, wouldn't attend the kids social life at school anymore and, suffered from Diabetes, blood pressure and various other diseases.
Finally, after going through what you describe, she went through bariactric surgery, she's down to 115 again but, it sure cost her.
