Hi, I am 16 years old with no road or driving experience ever, I want a transportation from my house to school, and an all around commuter, I wanted a car, but I know I cant afford one due to gas and insurance. Now I am thinking of getting a motorcycle, theres alot here for sale like a 2006 GSXR600 for only $5,500. Now I can afford the bike, I can pay the monthly payments if I get an after school job, but my problem is insurance, how much might be my insurance for maybe a 2006 GSXR600, I heard it is expensive because its riskier but motorcycle cause less damage, can anyone like guesstimate or estimate or just give a guess of how much will be the cheapest insurance for a 16 year old with no road experience at all here in California? thanks

Ok, lets say not a 600 super sport, what if I get a Ninja 250r or maybe a DRZ400sm, both are proven to be good begginer bikes, can I then afford the insurance?

The previous contributor is right.... I've been an Insurance agent for a long time and I've gotta tell you my friend, once you hear the price on collission on a motorcycle for a 16 year old, you're gonna change your mind really quick.... we're talking around $ 400 a month....
Now, if money is the issue, and I can see why, it's tough to get around these days with the cost of Insurance, and gas. So, if what you're looking for is to get to school or work and back home I would look into Scooters, they make some pretty cool looking ones these days. I know many people that drive them to school, you can get 60 to 85 mpg and some of them have speeds up to 70mph.....

good luck.... oh and by the way, you can get some nice ones for under $ 1500, if you decide to go that route, just make sure and ask a lot of questions and do some research....

That's a question you need to direct to an insurance agent. Some companies won't insure you at your age and lack of experience on a motorcycle. Also, there are some motorcycles that insurance companies will not insure. Just call, or go into an insurance office and ask them. It's free.

Coincidentally, I was a motorcycle insurance underwriter, and with the information you have presented, we would decline your proposal of insurance. No experience on a 600, at 16? If you're going to bite off more than you can chew - chew like hell. Good luck - don't become a statistic.

You can't afford insurance on a bike, if you're making payments on the bike.

Liabiltiy is pretty cheap (but you'd have to get a quote, and have a mc license), like maybe $50 a month for you, with minimum coverage. But if you're making payments, you'll need collision coverage, which is ASTRONOMICAL on motorcycles. Maybe it would go up to $300 a month. But call progressive 1-800-progressive and get a REAL quote. YOu'll need to know the cc's of the motorcycle.

Okay, insurance on a financed bike will need to cover everything. Medical, property damage and the bike. Different companies have different rates. Your problem, to start with, is getting the bike. Being under 18, you will need a co-signer. A good start would be to take a motorcycle driving course that tests you for the license at the end.

Only an insurance agent can give you an estimate that would be fairly accurate. It depends on too many factors for us to guess. ZIP code plays a big part. California is a big place. Are you in Beverly Hills, or Watts?
