if you want a kit there are plenty, lego Mindstorm, parallax Boe-bot, FishertTechnik, Inex Global. The instructions are in the kit.
But I assume you want to find some free instructions on the net...? Sadly I'm not aware of any free 'class material' type instructions. Instead you can find a lot of people who are proud of what they've built.
You can go to the projects page and links page of my site to find descriptions of robots.
In the links I especially recommend David Cook's robot room and Society of robots.
