Hmmm you raise a good point. I'll ask my shrink on Sunday after church. I'll get back to you.

Bipolar dear...It's not only Christians and Americans who are seeing shrinks nowadays. It's a disease spread all over the world regardless of our religious beliefs. People nowadays tend to be more modern and materialistic. These made their lives become more complicated and problematic than before. People nowadays are also less religious than before (generally). They don't follow everything being said in their original holy book anymore. They do almost everything that wasn't permitted. So when problem arises, they choose to seek for psychiatrist's help instead of God's help. That's the summary of my observation that also serves as my answer to this question.

Too much religious dogma, not enough golden rule - and not limited to Christians, bipolar boy.
P.S. Me thinks God made people, gave them free will and a nice place to live. He is still available for consult, but mostly it is up to us, because of the aforesaid free will thing. I think we are supposed to learn by our mistakes - so far it's not working as well as hoped.
P.P.S. Who needs a dark lord - we are our own biggest enemy.
P.P.P.S. You little soul-sucker, you're planning to stage a coup, aren't you? You're going to instate yourself as the dark lord of Y!A. It would explain the soul thing. Don't delete me - I'm too young to die.
P.P.P.P.S. And lay off Reader's Digest, you snobs. I know this is just 'cause the National Enquirer broke the news on Dog the Bounty Hunter first!

I believe Christians are really not understood very well by non-Christians. A Christian is a human being just like anyone else, only trying to balance work, home and spiritual living in a world that is growing more anti-God every day. True caring, loving, generous Christians find themselves heavily taxed by the needs of family, church, and friends and become exhausted like anyone would, but usually go to a minister for counseling. But not every one that is called a Christian or calls themselves a Christian is spiritually in tune to God's assurance of meeting their needs and seek help elsewhere, just like other people do. Nothing wrong with that, just human like you and me. We all have faults, only God is still working on each individual one on one.

According to the DSM-IV-TR Fourth Edition, OCD is inherent to religions, most notably the one you cite. It does not, however, contain a chapter on 'My Most Memorable Moment In Elementary School Cafeterias'. Perhaps, the Fifth Edition will address this shortcoming.

God expects us to seek help for any illness, including mental illness, much of which is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain.
God has allowed man to develop helpful psychiatric medicines that keep people in society rather than being shipped off to a hospital or asylum.
We should thank Him for giving people the intelligence to develop these wonderful drugs to assist people who need them.

Who know? You humans were messed up even when you were smart enough to worship cats.
And I like the Enquirer. It is just the right size for my litter box.

My studies have shown this to be the case, yes, and I am a twisted professional, so I should recognise this immediately. I see them all on Sundays too.

Actually there have been many studies that Christians are healthier, recover from surgery faster, live longer and have better marraiges. My source is Reader's Digest among others. A credible source I would say.

The attainment of truth is the potential cure to all human ills. It has nothing to do with any religion.
