He just turned one and wakes up at like 9:30am and will take two naps during the day; one at about 11:30am and then one at like 4:30. But he is staying up until like 10:30-11:00 at night. Is this normal? My husband cant stand it!

My daughter went to bed between 7 and 7:30. She got up about 8, took a nap around 10 to noon and another one at 2:30-4:30.

At one year of age a child needs about 14 hours sleep. Now It is easy to change the times of his sleep. If you wake him at 7:00am he will move his early nap up a few hours and possibly sleep long enough to not take a late afternoon nap. Then he will be in bed earlier. Every family is different, but as a working mother my children were on a schedule. The were awakened by 6:30 am took 1-2 naps a day, none after 3:00pm and were in bed by 8:30. It may take a week or two, but his sleep schedule will change if you force it.

My 14-mth old goes to bed at 8am and sleeps until 8pm. He takes a nap from about 1-3. This has been his schedule for a while now.
I would start by gradually elimintating the 4:30 nap. At the same time, push the 11:30 nap a little later each day.
Remember, this weekend the clocks go back (for most of us in the US), so he'll be going to bad at 9:30!

That's way too late for a 1 year old to stay up. Your husband and you need to sort this out so that the two of you have the evenings together. I suggest dropping the 4.30pm nap. At 1 year old my daughter was going to bed between 7-7.30pm and sleeping until 7.30-8am. She would get one nap a day..usually 1-3pm. Now at two years old she goes to bed no later than 7.30pm and sleeps until 8am and no longer naps.

If you drop the afternoon nap you'll be able to get your little one to bed earlier and I have no doubt that he'll still sleep through the night no problem. The added bonus will be that you and your hubby get the evening to yourselves! Keep the bedtime routine the same..nice and relaxing..just do it earlier. I'm sure he'll be ratty and irritated the first few days but stick with it. My daughter gets a bit ratty in the afternoons but man does she sleep great at night!

Take care and the best of luck to you!

I put My Son te bed at 8:30 p.m. he naps at 10 am sleeps for 1-2 hrs eats lunch then goes back down for nap at about for when he wakes up in the morning its usually from 7:30 to 8am Sometimes its just best to lay them in bed and let them go to sleep it may take a while at first but let them throw their fit! Maybe move your nap time to an hour to an hour and a 1/2 earlier Good luck!

What time your child goes to bed depends on what time you want him to wake up in the morning. 1 year olds (typically) will sleep between 10 and 12 hours a night, so if you want your baby to wake up around 9 then you should put them to bed between 9 and 11. If you don't mind early mornings you can put them to bed at 8...but then it is very likely you'll have a 5-6AM baby wake up call.

Kids routines (especially when they're little) are determined by whatever their parents routines are, and there's really no right or wrong, it's just whatever works for you and your family.

This question should be based on your comfort level. There is nothing wrong with the times you just gave, but since your husband can't stand yoru child going to be late, then it's probably time change things.

At this age, my son went to bed at about 8pm.

So my advice is to experiment. I would probably start with making the 2nd nap earlier than 4:30 though, either that or make it really short so that your son can fall asleep earlier at night.
