My mother is in her 60s, and I think it's time she knew the truth. How can I convince her that God isn't real?

Should I use the same methods that parents use to teach their kids that God is real?

That's not according to me, Morganie - that's what happens, dear.

She has been good to you.
You don't want anyone trying to change you. Don't try to change your mama.

My mama's dead. I wish I could have one day with her to tell her that I loved her.

If those that believe there is no proof of God's existence then how can they prove there is no God?
If your mother went on a campaign and told you George Washington never existed what would your argument be? He is real because history books and schools said he (George) existed? Well, that's the same with those that do believe in God so why the double standard? You've never seen this country's first president so why do you believe he existed? Why disbelieve there is no God just because you haven't seen Him?

Leave her alone. Her beliefs are her business. Having a false belief system isn't hurting her; it isn't like she's into fascism or anything. I think you should not proselytize your beliefs,whatever they are. And respect the beliefs of others. Besides,it could be worse. At least she never got sucked into that COD thing. That bunch is a dangerous cult if you far enough south. Someday we'll be seeing helicopter video shots on tv showing thousands of dead penguins laying around from drinking cyanotic cod-liver oil. Mark my words. That's a dangerous bunch.
Or maybe I could just not cast doubt on COD...

Your mother is in the stage of life called, "set in their ways". This means that she will not take to your conversion. I think you should just be happy with the time you have with a mother and keep your beliefs as your own personal beliefs. If someone wants to be converted, they will seek you out...

Why?

There's no harm in finding comfort in a belief, particularly when you're getting older and the old question of 'what happens after ...?' starts becoming pretty important.

If, as you seem to belive, there is no god, then it's not doing her any harm to belive there is one - she's not going to get 'punished' for incorrect dogma.

nah, it's too late for brainwashing. you may have to accept the horrible realization that you r mother will live and die under the total delusion that she is going to live on in some made up sill y place like a fluffy cloud with naked cherubs floating around singing and playing harps while they look like they need to be diapered.

Most won't be convinced by the words of others.
In some cases the more you try to more they resist.
Is your mothers faith causing you trouble ?
Why not let her believe what she wants ?

Peopole are always doing that to old people; I think it's a little mean. Anyway,why not try something original and attempt to convince her that you are not real? Or that she isn't real? Or anything,for that matter. Besides,it probably isn't.

My parents didn't teach me that God was real. I found that out for myself. Now, my parents and I are born again and it's the best thing that ever happened in my life.

Your mom knows alot more than you do. You should try it. You have no idea how freeing it is.

I had the same type of situation but I let her alone cause that brings her relief which is the reason that religion was invented in the first place.....
