Your spirit will know that you have the Spirit.

First of all you must believe the true Gospel, which is salvation by grace through faith WITHOUT works. In Galatians, Paul said that the gift of the Holy Spirit is only by faith, and never by works.
So first, believe that Jesus, who is God, died for your sins on the cross and rose again. Then ask Jesus to give you His Holy Spirit, and He will do it.
You will have God's love and the power of His Holy Spirit flowing through your life when He (the Holy Spirit) comes upon you by faith.

if you and everyone else notices a change in you and you are trying to live for God then you have received the Holy Spirit.
