I'm a college student living off campus. Is there anything I should know or look for when shopping for these? Also, what size should I buy when I'm cooking for probably myself most of the time? Thanks

Get a Rival brand 4 quart with removable liner. You'll fill it about half full, so you can freeze and get 2 to 3 meals out of it. The Rival has a manual that has a lot of very good recipes.

Make sure you get the removable liner. It's MUCH easier to clean.

Definitely a Rival with the removable insert. And make sure it has an off, high, low, and WARM setting. The warm setting is the best. As soon as it gets done on high or low, it switches to warm. So if you get caught up in a bunch of activities and have stuff to do, then the food either doesn't scorch, not turn cold and you have no idea how long it's been off and if the food is still OK to eat. I give a full two-thumbs up. (And I don't know how big it is, but it feeds just two of us.)

The 4 qt, would be big enough, but you can use the six qt, for anything, and if you were going to get together to study having the larger would probably be best. (Think throwing several cans of chili in it, it will stay hot for a long time on low and with some corn chips or tortilla chips, and some shredded cheese) One thing be sure to get one with the removable crock for ease of washing, and there are ones that will also fill in as a deep fryer. In the freezer section now are crock-pot dinners, we've had them and they are pretty good. A little salty but not too bad.

The best ones are the ones that have a removable interior, that heat all the way around. Don't buy the on that sits on a heated bottom, it burns everything to easily. Also, it should have a low, high and off setting.
