Is it true you have the option reguardless of what branch or active to guard that you have the option to get out if your pregnant? I was thinking of joining BUT I wanted to know the Air Force and Army rules for Guard on pregnancy. Not just getting leave or light duty but actually getting discharged. It is very important to me and some people I have talked to don't know.....

I don't know the Army rules but I know in the Air Force you do get that option to leave the service, but if you obtain a bonus of any kind you will have to pay it back, and if you recieved prenatal care and/or gave birth at the military's expense they can charge you for that that is if you get out before your enlistment is up. If you stay in until the end of the enlistment and get out all those medical bills are covered. BTW it also depends on the career field, if your career field is overmanned than yes but if your career field is short they will deny that option.

My wife and i are both in the royal navy and have a one and a half year old son my wife had six months maternity leave and she had the option to discharge but had to make the choice before she came back to full active service. She has decided to stay in and has now been selected to be an officer it is very very hard being in the forces as a married couple let alone married with a child. We currently do back to back sea deployments all though i do the majority as i am a submariner. In a nut shell if you are planning to have a family make sure you have the support of your family for the care of your child if he/she becomes ill and a good understanding nursery. At the end of the day it is the military so dont hold your breath for an easy time Good luck.

YES, if you are in the ARMY, you DO have the option of getting out.

If you are pregnant you will continue duty for the first portion of the pregnancy and be issued maternity uniforms. After you start your maternity leave, you have the option of leaving the army altogether. A former Sergeant of mine did just that over a year ago.

I am in the army and yes you can definitely get out! Chapter 8, no family care plan!!! As well as due to pregnancy, I am not sure of what the chapter is but it does exist!! I am going through the process now! I am sure the Guard works the same way!

Active duty Air Force women have the option of getting out if they are pregnant regardless of marital status and the Air Force still pays for the delivery and check ups up to six weeks..I can forward you the reference if you like. ..I think you were more concerned with Guard policy?

I'm a female, U.S. Army Veteran. I was discharged from the Army when I was pregnant. You have the choice of getting out or staying in. I chose to get out because I was in Korea and my command told me I may have to have my baby at Yongson. Then I would stay in Korea until my baby was 6 weeks old and I could fly home and leave him with my family. I said "no thanks" and got out when I was 6 months pregnant. It is your choice whether to get out or not. I got out in 1995, unless the rules have changed which I doubt?

I have know a few women who haven gotten out when pregnant, both Air Force and Army. Although I do not know if their contract was up or if the opted to get out before the child was born.
Either case, it would have been wiser to stay in and let the military pay for the child to be born.

if you are married, than no you will not have the option to be discharged unless your spouse is also AD and you fail to get a Family Care Plan within 30 days.

if you are Single, you may have the option, but typically they make you at least try to get a FCP in place first. It is NOT an automatic out. they have cracked down considerably since too many were getting pregnant to avoid deployments.
