Did you know the process of making champagne was discovered by a French monk?

True, true, but the monks did make *better* beer than the Egyptians.

Well I claim that there was time in our history in which religion allowed for our advancement. But that time ended 200 years ago with the Enlightenment. Religion and superstition is obsolete. It allows and promotes bigotry and xenophobia. And rewards ignorance. We as humans have long ago outgrown our need for religion. In order to advance now we must abandon all superstition and religious thought and take a hold the reigns of science and critical, skeptical thought.

The question of whether the seven days of creation were literal days, or symbolic of stages of development is actually irrelevant to the undeniable reality that Creation happened. The observable universe, the earth beneath our feet, and every one of us exist. Who needs more proof than that? And to the scientists and wanna be scientists, you should realize that God was the Creator because he is like you, how often do you consider what was involved in that creation? Well God too was a chemist, a physicist, an astronomer, and a biologist. He was also most certainly an artist, a maker of all of our world's beauty. He was the lawmaker of all of the unseen forces that make "nature" orderly and predictable. The universe as it exists was not produced by some cosmic accident. The conditions of creation were intricately planned and considered. A mindless uncontrolled "big bang" would result in destruction and chaos, not the life and order we now see. Order does not apply to what we do, God only created what he did in the beginning, life and a way to support life, anything after that we've created so you can't hold him accountable for anything we do to ourselves. I won't pray that you find peace and happiness in the simple things but I will hope that you do.

Egyptians made beer first, and the Greeks were great with the wine. The monks didn't contribute anything new.

monks are not the only people who have made beer and wine and not the ones who invented either.

The monastery in the town I grew up in makes excellent breads and pumpkin pies... I'd say that is a great contribution.

Religion contributes a whole lot. Unfortunately, it contributes more negatives than positives.

That's good, but keep in mind that they didn't create alcohol...just some tasty varieties. Though I definately applaud them for that!

I want to know who started schnapps, it's awesome!

Ancient egyptians brewed beer. They weren't told how to do it by Anubis.

Can't humanity take the damn credit? We make the miracles.
