toe_crap - from the link you provided:

Can people join the U.S. Military if they are not American citizens?
Non-citizens may enlist, but cannot reenlist (extend their enlistment beyond their first term of service) unless they become naturalized U.S. citizens. However, after service of three years, additional residency requirements for citizenship can be waived.

i am the first to say when i am wrong
i have yet to find a clear definite answer as to who may serve. with the strain on our military and lack of adequate recruitment is this not an area we should be looking into?

and yes i am a jackass (donkey/democrat)
isn't a free flowing debate what this is all about? i have observed a heated debate for a change, instead of the same old sarcastic restatement of bs that normally gets thrown out.
thank you!!!

Geno - please take the time to read all of the post. where did i say an illegal alien could enlist? i asked if they wanted to and i also made note to the fact that non citizens could enlist. you did get heated and we were debating if you realize it or not. you were actually taking the time to see what i was saying and trying top disprove it. again thank you

if a they are willing to die for a country they weren't born in they should be considered a solider and should be treated with the same respect anyone would get because it doesn't matter where you were born, what language you speak, what colour your skin is,what religion you are i find it more brave a individual from a diffrent ethnic backround coming to fight for another country starting a life a new and risk it to make us a little safer than a regular citizen fighting

I don't think this person will ever admit he is wrong. Ever.

I think he already knows he's wrong on the enlistment requirements, and that's why he's trying to expand the topic and draw away from the initial claim.

Every one of the web sites are crystal clear. I have looked at several of my own. There is no question that you MUST be either a U.S. citizen or have possession of a green card, in other words, be a legal immigrant. There is no gray area.

See. He is now trying to insinuating he was agreeing with everybody all along because he didn't SAY an illegal alien could enlist!!!! Meanwhile, he was disputing everything everybody said, even to the point of questioning a retired military member's knowledge and integrity.

ILLEGAL ALIENS do NOT qualify to enlist in our military services.

I retired recently. And NO, then policies have not changed since then.

Why do you ask when I retired??
Why do you mention the forum I frequent?

It has no bearing on the facts I stated. YOU made an incorrect statement. I corrected you. Period. Acknowledge it and move on.

Citizenship is not a requirement, but it IS a requirement to have a "green card". In other words, to be in the United States LEGALLY.
Where are you trying to go with this?

EDIT:

Call any MEPS-Military Entrance Processing Station or any recruiting office and they will tell you in 2 seconds exactly what myself and many others have been telling you over and over and over.

Illegal aliens do not qualify to enlist in ANY branch of the U.S. Military. It takes but one phone call. Do it tomorrow and let us know the results. I am confident that you either won't do it because you know you are wrong, and if you do...and are proven wrong, you aren't man enough to come back on here and admit you are wrong!!!

Who else has a feeling this jackass is not going to admit he/she is wrong??
Who else thinks he/she will attempt to post the same misinformation again sometime in the future in spite of KNOWING he/she is wrong?
Who else sees this sort of stuff all the time on this site? People make a statement that is totally and completely wrong...is PROVED wrong...and continues to post the same incorrect information again and again and again???

Illegal aliens do not qualify to enlist in the military.

Therefore, there is no path to citizenship for illegal aliens in the military.

HELLOOOOOO!!!

"Non-citizens" does not mean ILLEGAL ALIENS. It means GREEN CARD HOLDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
APPARENTLY YOU DID NOT READ THE LINE RIGHT ABOVE THE ONE YOU CONVENIENTLY CUT AND PASTED!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit...

I took the liberty of pasting a response from the esteemed retired military gentleman above:

EDIT:

It sounds like a challenge to me!! Are you man enough to take it?

P.S. This is not a "debate". You don't debate about military enlistment requirements. They are what they are. Period. It's not a "debatable" issue. You are wrong...100%. And as he said, all it takes is one phone call to verify what everyone here has been telling you over and over again. Notice you have not one supporter...because they also know you are 100% wrong.

Edit:

So are you now agreeing that everybody that responded to you is right and illegal aliens CANNOT enlist in any branch of the military, period?? Even the retired military gentleman that you felt the need to insult for God knows what reason? BTW, what was that all about?? Oh, that's right...that's when you were questioning his knowledge...by asking how long ago he retired, even hinting that he may not even be military because of the forum he spends his time in.

Is that what you are saying?

The best thing to do at this point is simply delete this question. It founded on and based on inaccurate information. I am man enough to not hold it against you if you are man enough to admit you were wrong and simply delete the question. You were wrong, you admitted it, fine.

In the future, it confronted by people claiming that illegals can enlist in the military, I would hope you would jump on them as we have jumped on you. The military is a sacred institution in the U.S., and people would be wise to remember this.
Many millions of military members have DIED supporting this country, and tarnishing the image of the military by suggesting we recruit illegal aliens, or that we would even lower our standards to accept them is plain wrong.

P.S. I hold no ill feelings...I hope you don't as well. I only hope this was an "education". Peace.

You have a chance to save your credibility here.

Illegal is illegal. They have no business working the system in the hopes of gaining benefits or special treatment from legal citizens. Recruiters should be trained to spot these losers and take steps to get them deported. I don't want to depend on criminals working the systems to defend MY country. That's part of what MY tax dollars go to ensure.

The point is moot. Illegal aliens don't qualify to enlist in our armed services. Therefore talking about deporting them after they "complete their service" is useless.

Deport them now because they are illegal aliens. Period.

I agree with the others. You have been modifying your stance as you go along.

When you made THIS statement (check with the military citizenship is not a consideration to serving
), looking at the timeline, it was in response to my intial statement.

It's as clear to anyone reading your responses to posts and the timeline what you were actually saying, who you were questioning, and why.

The military has a path to citizenship for LEGAL immigrants who serve.

ILLEGAL ALIENS do not qualify to join.

As the other poster said...acknowledge your mistake and move on.

YOUR VERY FIRST SENTENCE STATES "If an "illegal alien"...we are not talking about illegal aliens that have a path to citizenship in the military.

It is not legal to allow them into our Army.

Any recruiter caught recruiting illegal aliens can be punished. Some recruiters already have been punished for recruiting in Mexico just to boost their recruitment quotas.

Rome learned the hard way, never let people that don't like you into your army. Mexico has a long proven history of not liking the U.S.. Just recently Mexico threatened to tear down our border walls.

Can foreign-born American citizens join the Military?
Yes. U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Aliens (people who have an INS I-151/I-551 "Green Card") may join the U.S. Military.

http://www.todaysmilitary.com/app/tm/faq/entrance

ILLEGAL ALIENS DON'T HAVE "GREEN CARDS". THEREFORE THEY DON'T QUALIFY TO ENLIST.

Dog tags have socials (maybe even alien #s) on them, so i am assuming that you would have to be a legal citizen to serve. ILLEGAL is illegal.

They should not be able to serve at all. How can they defend a country that they come into by breaking the laws, and reap all of the benefits by doing so?!
