Topic: Rules in the House
What are some of the rules your dog has to obey in the house?
With the DDQ it was with Furniture rules so I thought what may be some just House rules. No taking food from the counter, eating after the master. Every household has different rules that go with the comfort of the family and daily routines and also the people.
We cannot call a rule a bad one if it doesn't involve harming it in anyway. Every rule is based on the household.
Care to share any rules you have? What are some rules we should consider putting?

Our rules are geared mostly towards the humans in our home:

*No feeding the dogs from the table.

*If eating in the tv room, dogs are not allowed on the couch with you (they know what "OFF" means)

*No leaving stuff around that Cooper might get at

*Close the doors to the rooms when you leave so Cooper can't go snooping in them

*Toilet seats are always in the down position

*Pick up your clothes so Cooper won't eat them

*Always close and lock the back gate

etc.

(this is just a sampling of our rules)

********

German Shepherd
Beagle or Basset
Irish Wolfhound
Doberman Pinscher or Dachshund

Rules:
1. Those with two legs are the boss over 4-legged mammals. This excludes the ducks.
2. People food is not for dogs.
3. The only time dogs tell people what to do is when they need to go outside or if Missy is telling me it's time to wake up.
4. People can take away whatever they want from dogs - toys, food that falls, etc.

As for the pictures...
1. GSD
2. Basset Hound
3. Irish Wolfhound
4. Black & Tan Coonhound

Fish Story's answer is the best. It is similar in my house. Five dogs, Mollie, Rascal, Riggs, Carlos, and Stewart. Our doggie rules are as follows:

1. All food is for the dogs. Any time a person is eating, they must share with the doggies.

2. Any shoes, socks, underwear, or any other items of interest left on the floor become the immediate property of THE DOGS.

3. Well tended lawns and gardens are over rated. All doggies must dig huge holes in the middle of the flower beds and tear up the daisies on a weekly basis.

4. Beds, couches, chairs are for the whoever can get in them the fastest. If you move your feet, you lose your seat. Dogs also make great heating pads, and with the rising cost of electric, you can save a bundle on your heating bill. Just watch out for the cold noses.

That's it for my house, I am a slave to five pampered pooches and I wouldn't have it any other way. I know I will never have a clean, spotless house (Martha Stewart would die if she saw my kitchen floor!!) but I have five canine companions that love me unconditionally, and I would trade that for anything! :)

As for the photos #2 Beagle??? #4 Dobie??? Cute noses though.

Rule One : No dogs in house unless invited
Rule Two : No dogs allowed to leave yard
Rule Three : Dogs must not sniff grocery bags on the way to the house (other wise no lamb chops will be given out of the bags)
Rule Four : Dogs must let me know when someone is here
Rule Five : Dogs must not nuzzle my face after drinking water or eating (hairy chin eww)
Rule Six : No licking

That's it all other rules are just part of respect for each other which just comes with love and understanding.

I have different rules for different dogs. I know that's bad, but the size differences makes it a necessity. The big dogs are not allowed to eat off table, counters, or out of fridge. The little dogs can't reach the table or counters, so just the fridge rule applies. Nobody is allowed to dump the garbage. Big dogs stay in designated areas and off furniture. Big dogs have to sit back while other people use the door, so they don't trip anyone. Small dogs NEVER go out the door unless invited out with leashes on them. NO Growling or Fighting ever for any of them. Big dogs are not allowed to jump and must "sit" when they come up to greet people or to get petted. I never let them "slap" people either. I just don't want them to hurt anyone because they weigh over 90lbs.

We also have a "NO YAPPING" rule that only seems to have to be enforced on one little chihuahua. Everyone else is calm.
We have a "NO Toilet Paper" rule that has to be enforced quite often with the same little "Instigator". And the same little dog has a "NO BITING" rule. Basically, that one little white chewing, yappy, biting rat has more rules than anyone else because the rest of them just don't act that way.

Sometimes I have to remind my one little intact male of the "no heisting" rule. He's pretty good though. As long as you say "NO" he drops that leg back down immediately.

Neither of them is allowed to cross the threshold of the outside doors unless they are leashed I give the OK command. Others are:

*No pottying in the house (not 100% successful)
*Not allowed upstairs unless I am up there. I used to allow it, but one used to sneak up there and potty, so I had to make it off limits unless I am up there.
*Never allowed the basement - ever. There is nothing down there and no reason for them to be.
*No chewing on things other than what is given to them
*Wait until I'm done eating
*No snatching food out of hands or on plates. I can leave my plate of food on the floor and they are not allowed to touch it unless I tell them it's OK.

Really, they are excellent dogs. I don't have much problems with them misbehaving and never did, except for housebreaking. (sigh)

Other than that, they have run of the place. Any piece of furniture to sleep or sit on is theirs.

ADD:
1. Haven't got a clue
2. Bassett
3. Some kind of Terrier
4. Rottweiler

Dog Rules. Or Dogs Rule!

1. Every dog in the house MUST jump up and greet company and family as if they will never ever see them ever again.

2. After a meal, each dog must walk by each person in the house and deliver a gust of gas to show appreciation for the food.

3. Begging is not only allowed, it is mandatory.

4. Beds and couches are off limits to anyone that isn't a quadraped.

5. The cats in the house MUST learn their place in the animal heirarchy. This means they are to be barked at and chased during daylight hours. However at night, when no one is looking, they are allowed to snuggle up close.

6. All shoes and socks that are left unattended are fair game for a fair game of "Let's chew that up!"

7. Barking is only tolerated in case of 1)emergency alert, 2)darkness 3)cats 4)hunger or thirst 5)daylight 6)full stomach 7) the desire to go out or in 8)wanting to play 9)strangers approaching 10)friends approaching 11)the sound of another dog barking, even if it's on the TV and 12) anytime a dog catches a person sitting in a chair.

and the most important rule:

8.) all dogs must be totally loved by all occupants and visitors.

Dog ID
1-charpei?
2- bloodhound?
3 - bearded collie?
4 - dobie?
See how certain I am?

In addition to no on furnitures, my dogs are not allowed:
beg for table scraps during dinner time
chewing on furnitures, shoes, carpets
go bathroom inside the house (of course)
They also sleep and eat in their crates. During day time when we go to work, they stay in the exercise pen. I can't think of anything else.
Have a nice weekend!

Hi,
I'm back, glad to see your questions are still going!
I am the boss, no dogs on furniture, unless invited, no chewing anything not designated for dogs, my house is not a restroom, dogs go in crates when sleeping (excludes the dirty cotton ball...), dogs go in runs when no one is home to supervise (neighbor kids!), they must be on leashes when they go anywhere, they each have their own special times and group times.

#1-German shepherd
#2-basset hound
#3-either an Irish wolf hound or Scottish deer hound
#4-black and tan coon hound

rules in my house:
1.no dogs on the big couch
2.all dogs are outside while family eats dinner (this alleviates the "sad eyed stare" thing!)
3. the alpha "dog" enters and exits the front door FIRST (i or my husband are the alphas).
4.no dogs on the bed (they have their beds...and so do i)
5.dogs must be in at night BEFORE 10pm. (otherwise my neighbor gets bitchy).

**that's it thumbs down fairy...BRING IT** LOL thumbs down for opinions on pictures and rules in my house? WOW
