Well you should learn a little more about your religion. Catholics are not only Christians, they are the largest denominations of Christianity.
I also find it hard to believe someone who was raised Catholic could be so misinformed about their religion. Catholics do not pray to statues or Mary.
Sounds to me like another protestant lying about the Catholic faith. Congratulations on joining a church that encourages you to disrespect other faiths. I'm sure your parents will be really proud.
And BTW, I'm not Catholic.

wow the other posts have lots of fighting between catholics and protestants.
some catholics are born again believers and not all protestants are born again believers.
when you get to heaven do you think you will only see baptists? only see catholics? only see presbyterians? no. God doesn't say in the Bible that only a certain denomination will be in heaven don't get me wrong I'm not saying there's many ways to heaven just pick one the only way to heaven is throught Jesus Christ and if you accept Him into your heart and you know that He died on the cross to forgive you of your sins then you're a Christian and no denomination can change that.
I think maybe you should talk calmy with your parents about this but just be like this is my decision and I hope you can support me. their your parents they'll love you no matter what!
good luck :)

Sorry honey. Catholics ARE Christians.
Matthew, 23:9. The same section that says "call no man father" also says "call no man leader" and "call no man teacher." Yet non-Catholics are ok with the use of these terms as it pertains to any man. So objecting to calling a priest father is purely anti-catholic.
In Matthew, Abraham is refered to as the father of all. In Mark, David is refered to as the father of all. So clearly Jesus did not object to the term.
Mark 11:10 NIV
"Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!" "Hosanna in the highest!"
Luke 1:32 NIV
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
Luke 1:73
the oath he swore to our father Abraham
Luke 3:8
Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
Should I go on? Or are we clear here?
What's wrong with the rosary? Have you fallen for that whole "repeat" lie? You know that is a purposeful anti-Catholic mistranslation. The actual word is BABBLE. Do not BABBLE like the heathens do.
We do not pray to statues or to Mary.
Nor do we believe that we attain heaven by means of good works.
All Christians are called to do good works. It is simply the will of God. Jesus himself says so. And in the gospels where he is saying to feed the poor and care for the widow and the orphan, he is quoting from the Book of Tobit which has been pulled from non-Catholic bibles.
What you call "christians" were formerly called protestants. Now I think the proper term is non-Catholic, because most of them aren't protesting any longer.
So tell them. The sin is in the lying to them. What you hide from them is a lie. Clearly you are a victim of poor formation. If they're angry, it will be because they let you down. They didn't properly attend to your education as a Christian and as such you fell victim to those who hate Catholics.

Pray a lot for your parents. Be extremely careful of what you say to them. Show them by example how Christ has changed your life and made you a better person. Pray for wisdom about what to say and say it very gently and lovingly. Be the best daughter you can be. Be very respectful of your parents. Yes, Catholics have some bad doctrine, but they don't know yet that there' s something wrong with their beliefs. God has to open their eyes.
Again, pray, pray, pray and ask other Christians to pray. I'll pray for you.

FOR THE LAST TIME, WE DO NOT PRAY TO STATUES OR MARY. We ask the saints to pray for us! The statues are just works of art showing devotion to our religion! Why would the rosary be a sin? And calling a priest "father? We believe getting into heaven the same way as you- by Jesus Christ! I'm not sure you're going to a Christian bible class,.....

i can understand where both of you are coming from... They want what they feel is best for you, and being a cathlic is what they feel is best. but it's your choice. you can't be something for someone else, nothing has ever worked well doing that. try talking to them in an adult manner and state the reasons why you don't want to be cathlic anymore. if they are really religious it may be a fight, but then again, no one can make you be something you dont want.

Just be honest with your parents.
59He said to another man, "Follow me."
But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
Luke 9:59-60
This verse might be a bit harsh, but the main point to remember is that Jesus comes first.
Pray for guidance and for your parents too.
And by the way, don't listen to Father K. It seems like he doesn't know much about who Jesus really is.

I had a friend who became a Christian and her mother
was Catholic. Her mother would simply always
be sure to tell her: "Someday you may come
back to the true faith" and that was the extent of it.
Her mother was obviously deeply disappointed in
ways. It is understandable from her point of view.
I am glad you became a Christian!
You can get to the heart of what the gospel is -
really study the word of God for all that it is!
It is the way of worshiping God in Spirit and
in Truth.
That gives me an Idea:
Perhaps you can tell your parents about what
Jesus said to the Samaritan woman in John chapter 4:
19"Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."
21Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem....23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
25The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us."
26Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he."
You can tell your parents that Jesus said to worship Him
in spirit and in truth.
Jesus essentially said that it does not matter in
what denomination - the spirit and truth part is what
truly matters and that is what you are doing, what you
are convicted of doing - to really study who Jesus
is! That the "sacraments" are not really showing
who Jesus is (that it is stangnant for you), but that
you are being called to be a follower and worshiper
in spirit and in truth!

I think that some Catholics are true Christians, but most are lost in all that churchianity.
Just tell them the truth and why you believe what you believe. Who knows -- maybe you can help them.
