What is the whole point in doing that?

They do it because they're insecure about themselves. Anyone who tries to bully you or belittle you (or anyone else for that matter) is afraid.

They just don't realize that in doing so they're wearing a big sandwhich board saying 'I'm Insecure."

Hi,
If they 'like' doing this it has something to do with their personality. No matter what the religion, if the essence of a person is confrontational, aggresive, angry, he will probably find a way to express this side of his nature through his religion. So sad that religion cannot put an end to human aggression and promote humility, love and understanding. And if religion can't, what can?

It is psychologically so that they can make themselves feel superior by making others feel inferior. Little do they know when one Christian hurts another Christian or anyone for that matter they are hurting three people and not just two, they are hurting the victim, they are hurting themselves and they are hurting Jesus Christ by putting up barriers of insults and not in a defense of their own faith. If their religion is so great , lrt it stand of its own accord and not on the repudiation of another person's religion or faith.

Simple-minded cruelty and intolerance; I'm an atheist and have no desire to subject other people to ridicule for their beliefs. I am on R&S for one reason only: my increasing alarm concerning fundamentalist support for the jews in Palestine and the reorientation of our policy toward destroying any and all Arab countries because that's what jews want. You may disagree with my position on christian zionism, but it is a legitimate topic for discussion. In any event,i deplore all the deliberate insults against christians on this site.

They are confused and lost. They cannot figure out their place in the world and they need to feel included. Putting down other people and their beliefs gets people's attention, so they do it. There really is no point in it except to give themselves a temporary sense of power and superiority.

Religion usually requires you to believe things with 100% absolute certainty. When you're that sure of yourself, its very hard to respect differing viewpoints because you already come into every debate assuming you're right. And since no one can prove their religious message to be true or other messages to be false, they attack the messenger. In philosophy, its called an ad hominem argument.

Some people feel that when a person chooses not to believe in "God" in the same way as them, their faith is somehow being challenged, or invalidated by the other person.

As strange as it seems, so many people attack others' religions in a selfish attempt to defend their own, and reinforce their resolve.

When you chose to participate in a forum with the title "Religion and Spirituality", you must expect a lot of disagreement.

It is a highly volatile and controversial subject.

If Satan could have his way, we would all be driving like maniacs, making fun of others, stealing, killing, gossiping and taking social services revenue from the poor to fund a war in another country.

as i always said, only losers filled with hate would spend their waking hours trying to insult other religions and spread lies about them, with time they lose their credibility and are only left with ignorants and bigots as friends.
when a person attacks my religion i only feel stronger about it, it actually drives me to pray more , it never makes me doubt my faith.
