It is a flag. Nothing more.

Much more important are the ideals for which the U.S. is supossed to stand.

It represents the love and respect I have for my country. I have been moved by it my whole life. I was in the Navy and enjoyed the colors being passed, honor guards and all that. I honor the flag by having one at my home, which I use quit a bit. I bring it in a night, and don't allowit to touch the ground.
I am patriotic, but not a mindless robot. I understand that our country has done some horrendous things, and I am ashamed. Not just recently but from the beginning.
But I would still rather be an American than any other citizen. I also respect Holland, Canada and a few others.
I respect the flag, but after all it is cloth. I wouldn't arrest anyone or shoot anyone for disrespecting it. They don't touch my respect for my flag and country.
I feel sorry for them, that they are so lame.

RE:
What does the American Flag mean to you?

To me the American flag represents the ideals of this country, everything we must strive to live up to. I found it a bit annoying that most people mentioned the current president and said he has changed the way they see the whole country. I agree 100% that he has made some terrible choices and done some very stupid things, but that in no way changes how much I love what this country stands for. 1 awful president, and yes some slip ups along the way, can not change what this country has stood for for almost 300 years.

That America is defeated as a country to Mexico - the very extreme of what you see it as. It has become an unspoken symbol of our fight. By itself, without another flag, being flown upside down, is legal usage - it means we are in distress.

It means a banner of freedom for 50 States (Stars) that started out as 13 colonies (Stripes). It means the United States of America is STILL the BEST and FREEIST Nation on Earth. It means a symbol of honor and freedom that we need to defend every day.

it means freedom, it gives others freedom to dishonor it although its wrong to do so, if you can tstand up for your flag why do you have the decency to call yourself an american, your not an american your simply a foregnier to the proud americans, our flag represents what millions of soldiers are fighting for including my fiancee, it shows pride, honor, and most of all respect.

Depends on where it is being displayed. If it is one of those giant flags used to attract customers to a used car lot or special sale, it means little. If it is painted on the side of a military vehicle coming to my rescue it means life.
If it is being burned to make a protest, I think how ignorant and unimagitive of the people burning it.

it used to be a symbol of freedom when i was younger, doing the pledge of alligence everyday in elementary school and stuff like that. i didn't really understand america and the world around me then. then when 9/11 hit, i kinda woke up and took a big long look around me. i finally saw the world. then came iraq. **** it was bad and i realized that. and where i'm going with all of this is that george w. bush, with his ridiculous and arrogant presidency, has caused me to not see the flag as a symbol of freedom, but a symbol of greed and arrogance. this president has ruined the image of this country.
