He was Batman from 1966-1968, but not the first Batman, two others played Batman before him (Douglas Croft and Lewis Wilson both played Batman in live action serials in the 40s). He is now a voice actor mostly known for playing himself as a crazy mayor on Family Guy (he's done the Simpsons twice, Super Friends, Johnny Bravo, the Crimson Chin, Fairly Odd Parents, and a ton of other shows). He was also in many movies, some westerns, some comedy, he was asked to play James Bond in the 60s be declined because he believed Bond should be played by someone British. His most famous post Batman film was titled The Happy Hooker Goes To Hollywood.
He is the coolest man who ever lived. A band that I'm friends with wrote a song for him, named their second album after him, and gave him a copy.
People forget that the old Batman show was a COMEDY, in the 50s and 60s Batman was a very light book, full of bad puns and corny villains, it was the style, that was the comic trend of the 50s and 60s due to the Comics Code. It wasn't serious like it was in the 30s and 40s. It didn't get serious again until the 70s. If you don't understand the humor of camp, then you won't get the 1966 series. It suppose to be funny, it's theater of the absurd!

He wasn't the first Batman, that would be Lewis Wilson. He played the most popular Batman though. When he speaks, it's almost a parody of an actor, which played well with the cheesy show. Somehow the show was cool at the time seeing that big named stars of the era wanted to play certain characters and Adam was such the man, it's said by the guy that played Robin, that Adam was able to get women to have sex with him while in costume (probably the only guy that could).

He played Batman on the first Batman TV series. His acting, using the term loosely, was pretty woode--kinda like William Shatner as Captain Kirk on Star Trek.
