When I was younger I really had a hard time figuring this out. I'd grown up thinking you had to be successful to have really lived your life well, either be tops in your profession or famous or rich or have a husband and family and the more I tried to find my purpose this way, the emptier I felt inside. I felt like a failure. I had a husband, wonderful children and a good job but it just didn't do it and I realized I was not going to be "tops". I had been on a spiritual journey for years, but not really connecting with God until I really needed some answers and I found He had them for me. Now I know my purpose is loving God and loving others as He would want me to, so that I may draw closer to Him and help others do the same. God doesn't require you to be rich or famous or the best to be able to use you, and He has been able to use me a lot to help people in a lot of ways. One of my favorite quotes is one my Mother Theresa, "We can do no great things, only small things with GREAT love." Making Him the boss of my Life has given me a purpose and made me a success.

Today I am finding myself asking the same question and you have some for crap answers, but anyway I think/feel the purpose of life is just to be, not to die and go to heaven if it exists. Life is the shits and it painful to live with it, but we are forced to move on with each breath we take. Life is for everything the shits and the goods. Maybe we are just an accident that should have never been. I don't know the reason for life but for hell it's GOD he is there but that is not what we are driven for. Life is here just to be and experience i guess you should make the best out of it i don't know but contact me later so i can mope kidding but if you do need someone to talk to just to im always here im a great listener but what ever tell me how you feel about life or what you think of it.

The purpose is what you make it out to be. Look at what you want and go from there. You do not need an external compass to tell you what is best for you or what direction you should go in.
I create a purpose each day I wake up. Some days my purpose is to do nothing at all. Other days my purpose is to be an ear for my kids. Yet sometimes my purpose is to do something that will make someone else feel better for having woke up that day.

Of course many dont know their purpose in life, like:
Poor Atheists: They have no puspose they just eat drink procreate and eventually they think they will just die and never come back and all that they have done in life is meaningless.
Same goes for Christians: They also live for no purpose..many would disagree but its the painful truth. What they do in life doesnt make any difference good or bad doesnt matter, why? they say Jesus son of God took away all their sins. And all of them will go to heaven sinners or not. Wow that would be such a nice world that should turn into a jungle with murderers and rapists who will go to heaven just because they believe that God has a son. So basically since Jesus didnt take them to heaven already which was supposidly promised by jesus they are supposed to do nothing in this life but eat and drink and procreate and worry about nothing.
Finally I believe that I have a purpose in life, what is it? yes let me tell you. It is to do good deeds and work hard for them and try to avoid the bad deeds as much as I can. Why because God will judge me on what I do, the smallest and the largest of my deeds. I plant in this life so I could harvest in the after life. This is what God created us for, to worship him.
51:56. I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me.
57. No Sustenance do I require of them, nor do I require that they should feed Me.
58. For Allah is He Who gives (all) Sustenance,- Lord of Power,- Steadfast (for ever).
This world is nothing more than a test to us we pass or we fail
57:20. Know ye (all), that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying, (in rivalry) among yourselves, riches and children. Here is a similitude: How rain and the growth which it brings forth, delight (the hearts of) the tillers; soon it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then it becomes dry and crumbles away. But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe (for the devotees of wrong). And Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah.. And what is the life of this world, but goods and chattels of deception?
Thats all to say :)
peace

God created life, therefore the answer to life's purpose comes from the Creator, God.
We were created to glorify Him. He has laid out a plan for each and everyone of us, we just must listen to His voice and be lead by His direction. This only comes through a relationship with our Creator, so we may be able to understand life's purpose, our purpose and know where He is directing us.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. " (Jeremiah 29:11)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'There is no commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:29-31)
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
Russell was a prominent mathematician, philosopher, Nobel Laureate and professed atheist.
The question of purpose requires God. Otherwise, all we can do is to think of activities that boost our egos, e.g. "make a difference in the world", or keep us too busy to think about a purposeless existence, e.g. "live life to the fullest".
If God doesn't exist: no purpose, no meaning, no point.
If God does exist, He must have put our great need for purpose and meaning into our human nature to point us to seek Him. To seek our Creator is our purpose and through our experience with Him, our lives have meaning for we were meant to know our Creator.

The purpose of this life is to progress to become more like our Heavenly Father (and Mother):
1. To gain a physical body. We only had a spiritual one, previously. After death, everyone will be resurrected to an immortal/eternal body. Bodies give us greater power of self-determination.
2. To LEARN:
- how to make choices for ourselves, & be responsible
- the nature of good and evil; light and darkness.
- to develop our personal abilities, talents
- compassion, understanding, patience, etc
3. To exercise faith... in not knowing, but still acting in a way to bring about that which we wish to happen. Faith is the principle behind the creation of all things.
4. To obtain eternal families - the social structure in eternity.
5. To prove to ourselves and to God that we will always obey Heavenly Father's plan and live by eternal laws, even when no-one is watching, and no-one is controlling us... thus proving that we will always live with integrity, and can always be trusted with whatever tasks God (Heavenly Father) gives to us.

Our purpose in life is to worship God, Eccl. 12:13: "13 The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the true God and keep his commandments. For this is the whole obligation of man."
Frustration results from a life course that conflicts with the Creator’s requirements and his guidelines for happiness. Galatians 6:7, 8 warns: “Do not be misled: God is not one to be mocked. For whatever a man is sowing, this he will also reap; because he who is sowing with a view to his flesh will reap corruption from his flesh.”—Also Galatians 5:19-21.
We find the greatest happiness possible now and our lives take on richness of meaning when we apply Bible principles and put first the doing of God’s will. We do not enrich God by serving him; he teaches us "to benefit ourselves." (Isaiah 48:17)
The Bible sets before us the prospect of eternal life in perfection if we put faith in Jehovah’s provisions for life and walk in his ways. That hope is solidly based; it will not lead to disappointment; activity in harmony with that hope can fill our lives with real meaning even now.—John 3:16; Titus 1:2; 1 Peter 2:6.

That depends on whose life you are referring to. Everyone has a purpose. I believe the purpose of life is to find one's own purpose in life.

The purpose of life is to live. I don't know how else to explain it. One out a million eggs met up with one out of a million sperm, so you have your life. The purpose of it is to live it.
Now, we can start getting philosophical about it. "The purpose of life is to live, love, care, support and explore what culture has to offer," is my favorite.
