My mom says that to me because I always walk barefoot in my home even in winter, but I haven't found anything on the Internet to back that up.

Sweetie that is a "wives tale" also known as a myth. There are alot of those in this world. I have been walking barefoot around my house inside and out all my life! I am 43 years old and a mother of four! Never did I have gynecological problems...

Relax, and tell your mother to stop harrassing you!

After well over ten years of going barefoot I thought I'd heard all the myths, but this one is a new one! No, you won't have any problem conceiving if you go barefoot. Btw, the other things named in this thread, like fallen arches, aren't true either; see source. And you'll be more susceptible to colds only if your *core* temperature drops; keep the rest of your body warm and you'll no more get a cold from bare feet than from bare hands. Going barefoot is very healthy!

I have had children and constantly go barefoot and I'm 65. I hate to wear shoes. I love them and I must have 200 pair of shoes I just don't like to wear them. So I do understand.
The problems you will have are cuts or bruised feet. That is something I live with.

You Mom needs to get a better argument. If you get cold and chilled it can lower your resistance to some diseases like a cold, but going barefoot alone will not cause you any diseases. You do need that bacteria or virus germ to do the disease thing.

And now let us think back to when people did not have shoes do they not have children??? If so we would not be here today would we. Do chimps and Gorillas in the zoo wear shoes??? and do they have children.

As I said your mom needs to get a better argument. And may you need to consider her concerns for your health. If you do get sick who has to take care of you? Give her a break and get you some comfy, slip on. I ware out a lot of socks.

But please remember that going barefoot does cause you extra chances to pick up diseases on the floor (especially public bathrooms) so use some GOOD common sense. Wear shoes when you are outside. There are all kinds of nasty critters on the sidewalks, in the grass and street especially if they are wet. Be comfortable, but don't be stupid.

That's an old wive's tale. Your feet get cold because you have poor circulation in your feet.. almost everyone has that problem. The next time your mom says this to you, respond sarcastically and say, "Yeah, and you can't go swimming after eating and if you have a white owl in your pocket the devil will follow you around all day. But watch out mom, I might step on a crack and break your back!"

No. Walking barefoot will not cause you to have gynecological problems.

It's impossible to say if your mother is ignorant, or if she was trying to scare you into shoes. I find either approach to be a bit frightening.

Aside, from stepping on something that hurts, the most damage you can do from habitually not wearing shoes would be (after 30 or 40 years) fallen arches, which would then make it painful to walk or stand, and probably harder to find shoes that fit.

Sounds like your mom is trying to get you to put on shoes and socks.
It's just plain silly with no scientific basis whatsoever.

It would take some seriously circuitous reasoning to have your cold feet cause reproductive problems.

If your bare feet make the rest of you cold, you might be more prone to catching colds or flu. But colds and flu don't cause sterility. Your Mom either has no idea what she's talking about, or is just trying to scare you.

That's is not true. How many kids have been born before the invention of shoes?! Your mom is messing with you. She probably doesn't want you walking around barefooted. I walked around without shoes almost everyday, and I have a beautiful, healthy, little girl.
