Some theists fear death, some do not. Some atheists fear death, some do not. It's really more of a personal outlook than a theist/atheist thing.

I was not fearful of death before I became a christian. But knowing what I know now, then I would be scared stiff if I was not a christian.

Just because someone understands evolution doesn't mean they do not believe in god or an afterlife.
