I had an interview with a bank on Wednesday. The interview lasted 2 hours. Well, since that interview went so well, they set up another one with the branch manager and it only lasted 34 minutes! Do you think that it's a bad omen to have such a short interview??? Did I just screw myself out of a job???

I think you did great and you have the chance of getting the job.
They took it further to the branch manager because they think they found the one and they needed a second opinion, The branch manager was only giving the short opinion it's not suppose to last very long. He just had to see if what the other people were saying were correct, and if he saw that in you he didn't have to ask the same questions again when there already was proof!
Good luck!!

Short interviews have always been bad ones for me. But I don't consider 34 minutes to be a short interview - especially for a follow up interview. My current job gave me a short interview and I was offered the job almost immediately. Good luck!

It could be the others had a stronger background for the openings they had. Or they could have done some BSing and that made it last longer. I have been to job fairs. I was shocked at how many of the people dressed - some even came in sweats. You need to dress up in some kind of suit. Dress for positions above what you are applying for. That alone could make you stand out. Try to find out what openings they have before you talk to anyone, so that when they ask about your background you can add information about how it relates to the openings. Rather than just saying I worked for XYZ for three years, say I worked for XYZ for three years where I developed customer services skills, or learned to use word processing software, or whatever things you did at that job that will be useful to what openings they have. You need to connect it for them. They won't do it. Usually they will have job descriptions available at the tables, so you can read that first. Also, make sure that you include a cover letter with resumes, which you should be bringing with you. You can create a generic cover letter that talks about the skills you have taken away from prior positions.

Bank managers have a lot to do during the day so a 34 minute interview (I'm sure they reviewed notes from your previous interview) is probably more than long enough.

The reality is that most people make a hiring decision within the first 2-3 minutes. The higher up the ladder you interview, the less time they have, and the better they are at judging people quickly.
