You know, that guy who brutally murders his family, a group of fast food employees during a botched robbery, or tortures a family before murdering them probably shouldn't have taxpayers pay for their housing and food. What's the sense in keeping these people alive for life, with free healthcare and everything? They're certainly never going to be reformed.
Why aren't these people just executed?

Some are in my state. The criminal justice system is far from completely just. But sitting in a little room 23 hours a day without women, decent food or freedom is torture. I would prefer to be executed if I was in prison for life.

Because we can't trust the system as it is to be correct 100% of the time. Are you prepared to trust whether you live or die to the present system?
At least when the DNA later proves that person was innocent, we can let him go -- if we didn't kill him yet. And we are letting people go in large numbers because the system messed up and wrongly put them away.

That's the same argument Hitler et al used in the 1930s/40s to justify executing the insane and disabled citizens of Germany. hmmmmmm

Some states have the death penalty and some don't. Some juries opt to ask for the death penalty and some don't. I don't have a problem with life in prison but it needs to be unpleasant. We get carried away worrying about not violating the rights of prisoners. As long as we are giving them the basic essentials of life and not torturing them, we should be able to place all those who are sentenced to life in prison in a separate facility that does not worry about reformation since they will never be returning to society. Perhaps this will be a deterrent for some who would dread having to live out their days without any extra comforts or entertainment.

I agree, the Bible says a life for a life, if you 'take' a life deliberately then your life should be taken. I suppose sometimes there is the element of doubt in a case and then wouldn't it be awful to execute the wrong person? Some people do turn their life around in prison and become a better citizen.

For the simple reason that the system mess up all the time and there are many Innocent people wrongly convicted and put away. PLUS who is who to decide who should live and who should die.
What if it was a member of your family that was wrongly accused? Would you still be thinking the same way!!!

That would definitely help fight the overcrowding problem, but I think death would be too easy for them. Keeping them in prison for the rest of their life is a more fitting punishment for some people.

Who knows?
I think we should kill them, better than feeding them for the rest of their lives.
And I have to point this out:
It is not "Thou Shall Not Kill"
The true translation, which was misworded a long long time ago is:
"Thou Shall Not Murder"
So executions are legal because a governing body says its ok, think about it otherwise wouldnt the Pope's during the crusades have damned themselves otherwise?

The only way to truthfully answer your question is:
What human being has the right to judge whether someone lives or dies? Hmm? What human? The president? The judge? Your mom? The answer is no one. No one should ever kill/execute another.

I don't believe in capital punishment, myself. I think that when someone can decide who should live and who should die they are playing God, in a sense.
I think that life in prison would be awful. To me, worse than death. Knowing that you are spening the rest of your life in prison with no hope of ever be outside would be horrible.

Because the justice system cannot be trusted to decide who may live and who may die, after all, they let OJ Free and executed Jesus Christ.
