Commercial aircraft are inspected all the time. They have inspections "due" after so many landings, and so many hours of flight time. The actual maintenance is performed by licensed airframe and powerplant mechanics.

Additionally, as mentioned by some of the other posters, the crew inspects the aircraft prior to each flight. You will see them walk around and visually inspect the exterior of the aircraft and then the proceed to follow a very detailed "pre-flight" check list. They do this for every flight no matter how short. If there is any question at all, they will call a maintenance technician to come look at the issue before they take off. They don't want to fly a broken aircraft any more than you want to be a passenger on a broken aircraft.

The FAA has regulations on flight maintenance. Before every flight the captain does a visual inspection of the aircraft. Their are also checklists and such that the crew perform before takeoff. Planes undergo a variety of inspections ranging from the aforementioned pilot, to once a week or so more detailed inspections, to complete tear downs every number of years. Hope this helps.

Planes are on a maintenance schedule. They are not maintained before every flight unless the pilots see a problem during the previous flight.

Aircraft are serviced after a set number of flying hours, all areas subject to stress are thoughly examined using several methods, including ultra sonics, mag pen, and many other methods dependent on what it is and where

Its a bit like a car in the UK, you have minor service's after a given time and major servicing at longer intervals

They are given a brief inspection prior to each flight
