Same way it happened with sports arenas or Walt Disney World. In USA and much of EU, the middle class is shrinking. Sales of pleasure boats are way, way down -- with the exception of huge luxury yachts. If you want to survive in business you sell to the market that exists, not to the market you wish existed.

Way back when KYT was college age, she could attend a major rock concert (Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, etc.) including parking for a half day's pay at an entry level job. Things have changed a lot in 45 years, haven't they?

Once movie theaters came about ppl wanted to spend less money on movie tickets and once this became a trend broadway shows had to increase their prices to stay in business. Initially the price increase didn't matter bec ppl preferred a movie theater to a broadway show, but now since the prices are so high the average person only goes to a broadway show maybe once or twice a year.

Although if you look around you can find discounts. Visit your local school they usually have discount vouchers there. :)

I think it is simple supply and demand. They can charge that much, and people still buy the tickets. When I went to NYC a few years ago, I saw two Broadway shows and they both had full audiences. One show at the time (The Lion King) had been sold out for months. So many people want to see the shows, that they can charge anything and there will still be enough people willing to buy tickets.

the popularity of Tin Pan Alley...it grew, the art grew, the attention grew...simple supply and demand. they had a product that ppl wanted so they could do whatever they wanted to with it. as prices of life in go up, the things we find entertainment in do as well.

Most recently that whole area has become a flippin' theme park. Families everywhere. I miss the hustlers and the junkies!

It comes from the increase in average ticket price.
