because the navy and the air force aren't worthy to talk crap about.

I don't think there is really any bashing going on. I think other people, not Marines, learn the historical facts and just drawn natural conclusions. Infantry is not just "Infantry." The following quotes apply: "Panic sweeps my men when they face the American Marines." Captured N. Korean Officer, Korean War. "Our morale always would break when the dying Marines keep coming." Caputre Japanese on Tarawa. If infantry is just infantry then why do famous Army Generals say stuff like: "Why in hell can't the Army do it if the Marines can. They are the same kind of men; why can't they be like Marines". Gen. John J. "Black Jack" Pershing, USA; 12 February 1918 "There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion." Gen. William Thornson, U.S. Army "If I had one more division like this First Marine Division I could win this war." General of the Armies Douglas McArthur in Korea, overheard and reported by Marine Staff Sergeant Bill Houghton, Weapons/2/5 "We have two companies of Marines running rampant all over the northern half of this island, and three Army regiments pinned down in the southwestern corner, doing nothing. What the hell is going on?" Gen. John W. Vessey Jr., USA, Chairman of the the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the assault on Grenada, 1983 "I can't say enough about the two Marine divisions. If I use words like 'brilliant,' it would really be an under description of the absolutely superb job that they did in breaching the so-called 'impenetrable barrier.' It was a classic- absolutely classic- military breaching of a very very tough minefield, barbed wire, fire trenches-type barrier." Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, U. S. Army Commander, Operation Desert Storm, February 1991 ******************************** Now, do you see a pattern emerging here? I am not going to put all the other quotes I have collected. Bottome line: There is a difference, a big difference and this quoted may sum it up. "My only answer as to why the Marines get the toughest jobs is because the average Leatherneck is a much better fighter. He has far more guts, courage, and better officers... These boys out here have a pride in the Marine Corps and will fight to the end no matter what the cost." 2nd Lt. Richard C. Kennard, Peleliu, World War II Semper Fi, Do or Die, Gung Ho, Gung Ho, Gung Ho. Dedicated to my Fellow Marines, Past, Present and Future with due respect to my Army brothers also.

This is my opinion, so all I ask is people not take it as Christ's own word... but some inevitably will, so whatever.
On some level, Marines probably bash Army personal because in reality their Basic is harder, tougher, and requires more out of you. There's really no getting around that. Aside from that, every Marine is trained to become a rifleman, regardless of the MOS, so everyone knows their **** when it comes to a rifle, even the logistical peeps that stick to the back. That said, only a small percentage of the Army actually has people in combat positions, most of those in the Army fill logistic and support positions, and not everyone in the Army is trained as basic infantrymen, so there's naturally not that same level of toughness (not counting the people who sign up for combat positions.) Beyond that though, the Army does have the Rangers, Special Forces, and Delta Force... which no doubt has harder training that the Marines, but the people who reach that level are few... which is understandable since the training is some of the hardest in the world. So... there's a lot of factors involved here, like most things. There's also the playful bashing that many people have mentioned.

Its just like people saying Fords are better than Chevy's. Its more of a personal preference than anything. They both may talk trash off the battlefield but on it they all need each other no matter what branch of the military they are in. They need the army, navy, air force, and marines. They work together to kick some terrorist @ss. They are all need that's why there are those different branches and not just marines or army.

It's all in fun. I have worked with all branches of service over the past 20 years and I can say without a doubt that the US Marine Corps and the US Army have both high caliber individuals as well as complete idiots.
One area of difference that is very noticeable is the physical aspect. I have NEVER seen a fat, sloppy looking Marine. I have, however, had to endure many overweight Army individuals who couldn't move fast unless a doughnut was involved.
By the way, understand that the Marine Corps is doing more than it's fair share of work in Iraq.

I work with Marines everyday, and they are on an Army post, I have never heard them say anything about the Army.

i dont really think that they hate the army too much. My boyfriend is in the army and my sisters husband is in the Marines and they seem to get along fine there are never any tiffs about anything and i even asked her husband why they think there better and they said that is a whole lot of bull, that they dont hate them at all. In fact, they respect them.

Marines are trained to belive they are superior, which is designed to be a confidence builder. I'm a Marine and I know that many Army dogs are hardcore. People i know that trained with Rangers always gave them respect. I always liked talking to guys that have served in both servies. They have the best perspective.

Once people are in the "real" military, all the interservice slams stop.. the only time that happens is in jest. As far as I've ever experienced, all the military branches realize that we all depend on each other and every service is important..
even if the Air Force people get to ride a bike for the PT test :)

my husbands in the army and well i think with all branches they do it. i write it off as a man thing and having to compete with one another and be better then them. i don't get it but after hearing that air force got compensation for living in army barracks b/c they weren't up to standards made me laugh.

My ex boyfriend is a Marine and I got to spend time with him and his fellow Marines at their sign up office (which was in between the Navy, and Army) and the whole time I was there, all the branches talked trash on each other. I was really glad to go home.
