This should give you drive to rise up and better yourself as far as getting out on your own. Strive for a better education, or trade to work for a good company or own a company. I bought my first condo at the age of 20 (in pricey California), because my parents were too focused on raising my younger brother and sister.
Since I was 12, I bought my own clothes, because my father picked my clothes, (his mentality was because he was paying for them). It was always the cheapest, ugliest clothes. Until the age of 12, school shopping always sucked for me and I hated it. This drove me to be a hard worker and take care of me. I am 36 yrs old and own 8 homes. NO handouts from my parents, but I do love them greatly. It was a mixed blessing and maybe this is for you too. Take action and you will succeed. LUCK

Hold on, with a name like David, aren't you a guy? I named my kid that and he's a boy...

Anyway, assuming your mother does not have a partner, then the two children of the same sex should share the biggest room, then your mother then the next biggest, and the odd sibling should have the smallest room. Now maybe that won't work exactly for your family, but some variation of that is all I can suggest. If you don't have enough room for two beds, then you can get bunk beds.

My two boys share a room and my girl has her own room. The boys don't always like it, but they realize that that's the reality of the situation and they work out how to get along.

I know people are saying that the oldest should move out. If that's a viable option, then go for it, but that's not always financially possible. Is he studying? Is he saving up for a deposit for his own place?

this depends on if your brother is paying your mom rent. If he is helping out like that he gets the room. Otherwise you both share the room. No one should be on the couch! It will ruin it. My 20yr old and 17 yrs old boys share full size bunks. It's a pain but everyone knows where the door is. Don't you? Want for you brother what you want for yourself!

Well, the two of you could share a room...or your brother could get a place of his own. I don't think that sleeping on the couch every night is a reasonable living situation.

First option is for you and your sister to share a room until your brother moves out.

If he is staying, I agree with you that HE should sleep on the couch. He probably is the last one to come home at night anyway.

Your brother may be lazy, but hes clever! Its expensive to pay for an appartment.
But tell your mom how extremely unfair she is being and that you are under 18 and therefore you should get the bedroom because you couldnt move out even if you wanted too.

Good Luck!

If your older brother is going to school or working full time, i can understand him wanting to stay home to save money for awhile, and if your mother is OK with it i think you should respect her decision. Plus you are almost 18 and could be on your own if you dont like how it is at home:) Good Luck.

I would have thought you could share the room with your sister. I can't see why any of you should be sleeping on a couch.

Mom should have one room
Sis has one room
You and your older lazy brother should share the remaining room

Why can't you and your sister share a room? If not, I think you should get the room, as you are a girl and you need your privacy. Boys can sleep and live anywhere.
